military exercises on Venezuelan soil that President Nicolas Maduro called a sign of strengthening relations. Two Russian air force planes landed in Venezuela's main airport on Saturday carrying a Russian defense official and nearly 100 troops, according to a local journalist, amid strengthening ties between Caracas and Moscow.
A flight-tracking website showed that two planes left from a Russian military airport bound for Caracas on Friday, and another flight-tracking site showed that one plane left Caracas on Sunday.
Reporter Javier Mayorca wrote on Twitter on Saturday that the first plane carried Vasily Tonkoshkurov, chief of staff of the ground forces, adding that the second was a cargo plane carrying 35 tonnes of material.

Next meme: “That nasty Donald Trump is trying to restart the cold war!”
No Problem.
Relocate some of our German military to Estonia.
Yes, this is the one time I think Trump does need to act against Russia. While I am not interested in getting involved in a Venezuela civil war, the US cannot allow Russia to put its nose in their affairs.
Are these guys regular army or those Greenmen mercs. You know what happened to them in Syria.
” Why German? It is already there, parading 200 yards away from Russian border.”
Did not know that! Cool pics.
I just don’t like our troops in Germany. Costs alot and serves NO purpose. Germany can pay or defend themselves.
Somewhere I read that Poland would love our troops to base there, and would pay.
Alternative explanation, they know Maduro’s days are numbered and these troops and transports are to guard their embassy and get Russian citizens out when tshtf.
(Russia is Asia's largest oil broker)
I totally dissagree, If Russia brings in Arab Oil producers, they could dominate the world oil commodities market....HOLY CRAP ! , might be a good time to sell the gas guzzlers, well it was a good run

Could also be transportation and a get out of dodge envoy for maduro and a few others when the time comes.
Sadaam going in to Kuwait to stop the slant drilling of his oil is like a drop in the bucket compared to Russia getting a foothold in Venezuela ...OMG !!!!

The United States is now oil independent of the rest of the world. The US does not need to import oil. As a result of advances in fracking we not only have more than enough oil, we have practically free natural gas. Even at its height, it was rare for more than 20% of Arab oil to come to the United States. In addition to this, Venezuelan oil is heavy crude which requires more expensive refining. Peter Zeihan is a geopolitical analyst. I dont know if this particular link tells the entire story of Venezuela but it is in his book,
The accidental super power. (Good read, I recommend it.)
In a nutshell, Russia and much of the rest of the western world is on the brink of a nonrecoverable demographic and cultural collapse. The US is sitting pretty for some time to come. (Provided we can secure our borders.)
