One can spend several days trying not to overreact to President Trumps latest, unprovoked tweetstorm against the late Sen. John McCain R-Ariz., yet still conclude that there is something sick and twisted about Trumps obsession with the singular American hero Trump disparages.
Tom Rogan already in these pages has eloquently explained why, fake heel spurs or no fake heel spurs, Trump could never be fit to wear McCains discarded shoes. And lawyer George Conway, husband of top Trump aide Kellyanne Conway, has presented a persuasive case that Trumps fulminations about McCain and other bizarre eruptions are signs of a personality disorder.
What remains, though, is a reminder that on facts as well as fulminations, Trumps flip-out against McCain is full of falsehoods.
First, as many others have noted, Trump repeatedly accused McCain of trying to spread the so-called Steele dossier as a way to block Trumps election, but the undisputed evidence shows McCain didnt even become aware of the dossier until after Election Day. (Plus, McCain did exactly what a senator should do when provided such material: He turned it over to the FBI, without prejudice. But thats beside the point about Trumps dishonesty.)
What has not been as adequately refuted is Trumps allegation that McCain voted against a bill to repeal and replace Obamacare, and that McCains vote was a big surprise. Neither element of that story is true.
First, by the time a healthcare bill finally reached a vote in the Senate, it was in no way, shape or form a repeal and replace bill. In reality, it was a shell of a bill known as skinny repeal, which did next to nothing other than keep...

I wonder if he’s buried with a can of strawberries?
Trump didn’t lie or attack McCain. Trump simply told the truth.
I don’t know about the lying, but he should shut his fat mouth about McCain. The guy is dead. It’s like the first lesson you learn - don’t speak ill about the dead or criticize someone who can’t defend themselves. All it does is bring his whiney daughter back into the media fold. It makes him look like a baby. This is one of my biggest complaints about him. He has no tact. He never rises above. The Presidency should sometimes BE above the fray. He has never mastered this. Whether intentional or not, I can’t stand it.
Liberal puke Quisling, John McCain, is no hero. Get that part straight!
McCain was trying to remove President-elect Trump before he even took office. Trump did not say he circulated the dossier prior to the election. Hilyer is a noted anti-Trumper.
He was asked about McCain. Stop asking him about McCain if you can’t handle it.
I have the same opinion of McCain, that he was a back-stabbing egomaniac that only used the GOP to further his own ambitions. But piling on after the guy is dead is generally counter-productive.
The truth about McCain needs to be retold as a message to the never Trumpers. Most of us wouldn’t go there but somebody has to be the bad guy. No one else will take the arrows on our behalf. Sometimes you need to break a few eggs to make an omelette.
Have you noticed carrion birds flocking when they smell rancid waste? Trump trolls them effortlessly.
First of all:
McStain was NOT a hero, EVER!!!
And Our President can use ‘free speech’ the same as the rest of us can...we are closer to a ‘Free America’ at this very moment than we have been for years...
If the McStain family doesn’t like it, tough, deal with it cupcakes, this is life!!!
Please feel free to vote for a Democrat or a eunuch Republican then.
Famous Last Words: “We must hold ourselves to a higher standard.”
McCain tried to take Trump out. He personally took the dossier to Comey after sending his aide to London to pick it up. His assistant, Kramer, then spread the dossier to 13 media outlets and to the State Department.
Two hours before McCain voted on Obamacare Trump spoke to him on the phone and McCain assured him that he would vote for repeal. Mike Pence met face to face with McCain an hour before the vote and McCain promised he would vote for repeal. He lied and voted against repeal giving Trump no opportunity to try to find someone else to vote for repeal.
Trump approved the lavish funeral arrangements for McCain that were quasi Presidential. The McCain family never thanked him and instead, used the funeral to attack Trump.
I can understand completely the intense dislike Trump has for McCain who was part of the attempted coup to take out a sitting President. Trump is far more restrained than I would be. The continuing attacks and investigations resulting from a hoax perpetrated by Hillary, Deep State, and Obama for over two years would drive me insane.
As for "lying"....the only lies about Juan that I hear come from his daughter and the Rat Party.
And as for Chuck U Schumer wanting to name a Federal building after McLame...that's a typically lame idea coming from Chuck U. However,I wouldn't mind seeing the government's "Department of Rodent Control" being named after him.
Quinn Hillyer is male version of Peggy Noonan, except a lot dumber.
Trump did not “mention” McQueeg. He was asked about him.
PDJT is making sure history stays correct and we dispense with the nonsense of making no name a hero. I find this to be most refreshing. Little Meg is fighting an uphill battle. Better for her to have said he may have made some mistakes but he was my Dad, blah, blah, blah and move on. The more she attacks the President and attempts to paint a sterling picture of her Dad, the more she discredits herself.
A smarter freeper than I asserted that Trump is doing this on purpose. He’s getting the news cycles to focus on nonsense instead of cheerleading for the Democratic party candidates. Every time they start fawning over Beto or Biden, Trump grabs the spotlight.
