Last Friday, in Christchurch, New Zealand, one of the more civilized places on earth, 28-year-old Brenton Tarrant, an Australian, turned on his cellphone camera and set out to livestream his massacre of as many innocent Muslim worshippers as he could kill.

Using a semi-automatic rifle, he murdered more than 40 men, women and children at one mosque, drove three miles to another, and there killed seven more. Dozens are still wounded, suffering and dying.

According to Forbes, of the 18,814 deaths caused by terrorists around the world in 2017, well over half were due to the actions of four groups: Islamic State, the Taliban, Al-Shabab and Boko Haram. All are Sunni Muslim; none are alt-right

The murder of 50 Muslims at Christchurch will for months if not years obscure the fact of thousands who are murdered by Muslims - including Muslim immigrants to western countries. To put this into perspective, there are violent attacks against Coptic Christian Churches in Egypt on a nearly weekly basis, as opposed to this one freakish "man bites dog" attack in Christchurch.

None of these numbers or facts will ever stand in the way of the PC narrative of Muslims as victims of "Islamophobia" rather than as the overwhelming perpetrators and instigators of violence. It's analogous to how the media inevitably pounces on any possible example of racially motivated white on black crimes (however flimsy or spurious) to sweep the fact of overwhelming black on white (and black on black) violent crime under the rug.

This is interesting. We’ve had many events like this and I don’t remember people talking about “who spawned” them.

What’s funny is that I’ve seen people accuse Trump of causing leftists to do bad things via his frustrating them so. But they don’t say he “spawns” them.

I think the whole “spawned” discussion is deflection.

There ought to be a discussion of who spawned both Muslim terrorism and the inevitable and sometimes violent backlash against Muslims in response. Because the correct answer to the question is: "the idiots who think that allowing mass immigration of Muslims into non-Muslim societies is a good idea."

You don't put incompatible peoples and cultures inside the same border and expect there to be a good outcome.

Did the virtue spewing pro Islamists in the MSM show any revulsion to those massacres or dare to criticize the barbaric Islamists? They did not. They would never offend the 9/11 Saudis who pay them so well to promote and protect Islam. They would not offend their Saudi paymasters and more than they would disobey their guilt ridden , progressive billionaires ( Soros, Steyer. These attacks, and even worse ones in Syria and Iraq aren't news. For one thing, they're a weekly occurrence, and secondly, they don't fit the PC Left's narrative of "Muslims as innocent victims of Islamophobia." That's why bombings of Christian Churches in the Middle East get buried, while we'll be hearing about the Christchurch shooting non-stop for the next decade or more.

For the same reason that Muslim terrorists never seem to represent Islam in any way shape or form as far as the media is concerned, while every (freakishly rare) attack against Muslims or any racial minority is supposedly representative of all conservatives and all nationalists.

Mark Steyn recently described this disparity in perception among some as: “All jihad is local, but all “Islamophobia” is global.”

Now, I do not really blame the likes of the OIC *** for putting the world on notice that they use alternate legal definitions of words (words such as “terrorism”) where they are defined according to Sharia rather than use the colloquial sense of such words. They are about advancing Sharia so we should simply expect them to put their thumbs on the proverbial scales of perception.

Where I’ve umbrage is over those who put their thumbs on the same side of the scales as well but for reasons entirely unrelated to Islam or Sharia. One bunch that does this, and which can often play a larger role in reporting in the West than the OIC for being an inside group rather than an outside group are those who have accepted the ideas on which things like being Woke are based and which see much through the lens of some reputed imbalance of power between “the whites” or “European civilization” or even “Christians” (note: culturally influenced by Christianity is enough) which are assumed to have this mythic power and thus are the oppressors and put near everyone else that is assumed to not have this attribute and are therefore are the oppressed.

In the service of an idea like this it has really been quite easy for folks to ignore centuries worth of facts about Islam and see them too as victims. Being a victim can give one an excuse in the eyes of such people if someone ever acts up. Thus we found, on the next day after 9/11, Ivy League nitwits who couldn’t bring themselves to describe what the terrorists had done as evil.

But on the other side of the coin anything that is done by anyone in a group that is reputed to have this mythic power is seen as validation of the whole proposition of that group as oppressors. The only escape for someone in such a group is to parrot correct thinking, and then they can pat themselves on the back that they aren’t the bad people.

So the same folks who can even go so far as to separate the Jihad from the Jihadi can have little difficulty using others to smear whole swaths of the population just because they have some tenuous and entirely involuntary association because of their race, ethnicity or their culture.
