Under capitalism, ownership brings control, and Fox News has a new corporate parent that began trading yesterday on NASDAQ. There are reasons for conservatives to be deeply concerned. Sarah Ellison and Paul Farhi write at the Washington Post:
Fox’s parent company is undergoing a generational change — one that produced another, perhaps more subtle sign of independence from the president.
On Tuesday, Fox Corp. began public trading as the new parent of Fox News, Fox Entertainment and Fox Sports; the company is the result of 21st Century Fox’s sale of its film and television assets to Disney Corp. The new company is headed by Lachlan Murdoch, the eldest son of Rupert Murdoch, who co-founded Fox News with Roger Ailes and remains a controlling shareholder in Fox.
Among Fox Corp.’s first acts in business: appointing former House speaker Paul D. Ryan to its board of directors. Ryan is, of course, an establishment conservative disliked by both Democrats and those who most strongly supported Trump. Although he advanced some of Trump’s agenda, particularly tax reform, as speaker, Ryan declined to defend Trump or campaign with him in the latter stages of the 2016 campaign.
Ryan is also increasingly blamed for not passing funding for border wall construction while Republicans controlled both houses of Congress.
The acquisition of the film and television entertainment assets to Disney closed at midnight last night, so the restructuring of Murdoch assets now is complete, with Fox Corporation’s market cap more directly linked to the perceived television fortune of Fox News, along with Fox Sports and Fox Broadcasting.

We were in a motel last weekend, watched FOX and haven’t for a long time at home. It hit me immediately that they weren’t actually doing the news, just headlines and discussing the headlines. I channel surfed a bit and I don’t see how anyone can get informed from watching news. I knew the story on the issues discussed but if I was depending on them for actual information I would be seriously uniformed. They leave out about 90% of the information on any given issue.
I’ve noticed that ever since I joined Freerepublic in 1998 (I dumped TV in 1997).
I will walk into my workplace where they have CNN on and they are covering stories I’v already read on FR and they are woefully inadequate in their reporting. And you nailed it. News stories on television are usually visual stories, so they can show cool video to an audience that is hungry for something to look at. The actual text might as well be nothing more than a caption under the picture.
Like you say, it isn’t news.

Fox hasbeen been moving left for a long time.
I have a couple of friends that get all their news from watching it on tv. One is conservative the other liberal but they are both so misinformed about anything and everything. But they’ll tell you....I keep up on the news, I know what’s going on. I just shake my head. I watch 0 news on tv.
Fox isn’t watchable any more. Their few remaining decent hosts need to start looking for employment elsewhere.

Saw Donna Brazile nut on Hannity last night.
If this is the future of Fox count me out. I am already down to 2 shows so giving it up will be pretty easy.
