Just a father’s pride here: My son Joshua (ironic but prophetic) was the only Jewish soldier in his Engineering Company when they went to Kuwait before entering Iraq during OIF.

However, he and a couple other engineering soldiers went into Iraq earlier on the morning of March 20th along with Kuwaiti engineers who were destroying Iraqi sand berms, tank traps, and booby traps (after US aircraft destroyed Iraqi watch-towers along the border.

Josh and his group placed glow-sticks on the ground where the Kuwaiti engineers had plowed through the berms and created roads for the American tanks and trucks to follow.

They then went back to their unit, got into their bridging-equipment trucks and drove 750 from Kuwait to the Euphrates River (fought at the battle there at Hindaya, seizing the concrete bridge for the M-1 Abrams tanks to use), built the first ribbon bridge in combat (for lighter vehicles to cross on) and then went on combat patrols to fight against snipers, seize prisoners and enemy arms caches, before ending up at Balad AF Base as their encampment.

So we had a 28 year old Army Reservist (activated) Jewish guy helping to liberate not only a Moslem country from a terrible dictator, but also to liberate the land of his own religious ancestors who once lived in Babylon, Ur, etc.

History is made up of irony and brave men, including Sgt. Major Freedman and my son and his comrades. They carried with them the ancient Star of David and the American Flag, as liberators, which is what Americans do as the norm.

Omer is exactly who they fought against, the Islamic fanatic, yet she is alive and doing well in the U.S. One died protecting our country. The other is still protecting our country, not far from where Omer’s office is.

Again, irony can also be unfair and undeserved.

May she rot in hell along with Bin Laden and Aidit.

I was partners in the diamond and emerald trade with several IDF vets

One was a demolitions guy attached to a tank squadron in Yom Kippur

Another had been an officer in a commando unit same period and had married the daughter of a major Brasilan bank owner in São Paulo....billionaires

Another was a fighter pilot in the Israeli Air Force who remained in Brasil and married a local artist lady in Parati an historic village south of Rio and to this day I hear sculpts

This was 1980s ....even though typical Israeli world traveling boho they still gave off military vibe

I was closest ..in fact one of my best friends of my life...his dad had fought in the Haganah ...his dad spoke Landino ...last name Navarro which is something originally like the animal Wolf....many Jews in then living in Spain did that in medieval times to blend in more . He was in Manhattan and I was in Miami by 89 and he became more under his control of his haredi rabbi brother playing guilt trip on him.

He left his pretty and loyal mizrahi wife of 15 years devastated and his two small children....and married the supposedly 18 year old daughter of the local ultra orthodox Rabbi leader in Rockland county and grew payots and subsequently had another 13 children and eventually moved to Israel and became a scholar living off govt handouts basically to study

Israel sort of subsidizes this lifestyle apparently

His poor wife was never the same.....nor his kids....I’ve stayed in touch with her over the years....she remarried an El Al pilot....it didn’t work out he cheated ...

And of course he cut me off too...I’m unclean....I went to his house and had to drink from special glasses....how weird....his wife was a child basically...my girlfriend was like this is not quite right

Man he and I worked and adventured together including war in Sierra Leone and Burma ....all over the world...

He did always have guilt over his then secularism but I don’t know...

We had an office in Ramat Gan and were under the wing of Henry Applebaum of Antwerp who was a big shot....a sight buyer

I had strong connections to Victor Caranza of the Muzo emerald cartel in Colombia ...a legend and also a leader of rightist self defense forces fighting ELN and FARC ....that’s what brought me into the group
