Donald Trump Reups Effort to Eliminate PBS, NPR Federal Funding

resident Donald Trump’s proposed federal budget for 2020 aims to cut all funding for PBS and NPR, along with the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).

The president’s request, unveiled in its entirety on Monday, calls on Congress to kill $435 million in funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) and $126 million from the NEA. The budget, which will spend $4.7 trillion on mandatory and discretionary programs, would leave just enough money to wind down operations of the CPB and NEA.

The Left says that we need PBS and NPR because of their educational and cultural value, but if you suggest a compromise where the extremely biased news programming (PBS Newshour, Frontline, NPR news, etc.) is eliminated and the focus is entirely on the educational and arts content they throw a fit. They don’t want to give up that propaganda tool.

... all anybody needs to do to see NPR’s bias is to accidentally leave the radio on for a few minutes after listening to the ONE worthwhile NPR program “Car Talk (Click and Clack - the Tappet Brothers).”

In that time, you’ll hear the anti-conservative and anti-Trump screed offered by federally-funded, little-known, burned-out wannabes. The show is called “Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me” (anything that might inform me.)

We lost the House. Period. Defunding will not happen. Trump is wasting his breath.

Absolutely.

WE, the American people are (a) not represented by NPR, PBS and the national endowment for the arts, and (b) we do not need such organizations to exit.

Individuals, companies and foundations GIVE - out of their own pockets - BILLIONS to the arts and the staggering amounts far exceed the funding of the federal boondoggles known as NPR, PBS and the National Endowment for the Arts.

It is our private endeavors who speak to who we are, not something with a federal or “national” label on it, created by the political class. Our arts do not speak to the world with one voice with an “official” label on it. They speak with many voices that need only the approval of those who enjoy them.

If they can survive without the taxpayers’money, then good for them, but they shouldn’t get it from us.

Heck, President Trump will tweet a picture of him eating a turkey drumstick with a few yellow feathers.

That would be epic!

NPR and PBS have become overt mouthpieces for the leftist religion. The government has no business funding them.

What ever happened to “separation of Church and state?”

Democrats would NEVER allow the federal government to pay for Republican talk radio... they’d be screaming like stuck pigs.

Sesame Street had an urban ghetto feel about it from the beginning, and no, I’m not just talking about the racial diversity aspect.

It seemed dirty and lowest-common-denominator. Offering nothing to attain to. I only watched it while waiting for The Electric Company to start.

I’m amazed you don’t get it.

The fault is in the vagueness of my post.
What I meant to say was there isn’t much
point in the Dems leaping on Trump wor
proposing the same thing he did last budget.
They’re wasting their fire on something the
Congress will ignore, anyway. The more they
protest, the more people will wonder if there
really is a need for a govt TV network when
there are hundreds of cable channels.

The Deep State seems to love these state-run media outlets,
...........................................
Of course it does. How could it continue to undermine America and rip off American citizens without those major propaganda organizations?

I’m actually a fan of PBS, to a great extent.

I’m a staunch capitalist, s many years ago I vowed not to ever listen to or watch or in any way support public broadcasting.

PBS had a purpose when there were only 3 or 4 commercial networks and no real outlet for educational television.

With the proliferation of cable channels, streaming services and the ability of individuals to post just about anything for the world to see on the internet, there is no justification for the continued existence of PBS.

PBS is the home for documentaries. But, not accurate documentaries. Ken Burns stuff always has gtross inaccuracies! I’ve watched some of the Jazz series, and all of the Baseball and Civil War series and while mostly accurate there are just lies/untruths.
