Alan Krueger, a Princeton University economist and a top adviser under two Presidents, has died at age 58 after taking his own life.
It is with tremendous sadness we share that Professor Alan B. Krueger, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and Princeton professor of economics took his own life over the weekend, a statement from his family reads. The family requests the time and space to grieve and remember him. In lieu of flowers, we encourage those wishing to honor Alan to make a contribution to the charity of their choice.
His passing was initially announced Monday by Princeton, which praised him as a true leader in his field, known and admired for both his research and teaching.
Krueger was chief economist at the Department of Labor under President Clinton from 1994 to 1995, and chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers under President Obama from 2011 to 2013.

That’s where they want you..despondent, depressed, in despair. Don’t let them do that.
You’re a fighter, a great supporter of President Trump and an encourager to your fellow freepers. We need more like you.
Oh, well, as long as it's that simple, I will kindly pass that verse and a bible out at the next meeting of my suicide survivor's meeting.
Snark aside, suicide is too big and deep and dark to cure it with a bible verse. I'm sure you meant well...but, from the other side, this is what you said:
If you kill yourself it's because you wasted all that time thinking about yourself and your job and your family and your pain...So, just praise God and it will all get better."
That's not really what you meant, is it?
Wow. Thanks.
That was nice.
His parents arranged it with a LOT of money, and a weight lifting scholarship...
Exactly. It is not a safe place to be in between Clinton and Obama in the next few weeks. I see a trend in this kind of stuff in the next few weeks.
I am raising my family.
Lots of miles, lots of choices. Some bad, some good. Some I would rather do over.
But I will not cash out early. I’m a Christian, and that isn’t something I can do. Beyond that, I have a few great examples of fighting old age like the third monkey on the ramp to Noah’s ark.
Do you have grandchildren yet? Are they old enough to drive you around? Have you been to their weddings and held their babies? If any of the above answers are “No” then you are not done yet and you’re not going anywhere!! (these are the “important family things” that I mutter to my husband’s spirit when the anger and pain bubble up...cos he chose to leave us and miss all that and more)
And for silliness...is your garage/workshop totally cleaned up? I mean organized, so that the guy down the street could come in and find anything? Didn’t think so! Stay! LOL!
From what I read today, he was planning on writing a book that was supposed to come out in June, hmmm I wonder what it was about..the Clintons? The Obama’s?
I sat in a meeting, recently, that featured a hipster man who was proud he was in a high up IT position in the “affordable healthcare” website rollout.
Personally, that would be the last thing I would want anyone to know.
Thank you :)
I really wasn’t externalizing lol.
I don’t think so!
Now I’ve got FReepers worried that I’m about to drop a cyanide tablet!!
I didn’t mean to do that!
As I’ve gotten older, I’ve built an army of little things that give me pleasure and they really help.
And I’ve got my midlife crisis Dodge Challenger out front and you feel forever 18 when your foot’s on the pedal.
You’re car doesn’t know you’re balding and fat now lol
Twice, even.
I thought we were the deplorables. :)
Cheer up, ya mook!
J/k
Your posts are always fun. Hang around a while longer and we’ll have a blast. Don’t let Moscow on the Hudson get you down.

I went through several years of depression after finding out that my former wife had been cheating on me for several years. I found comfort seeking out good counseling and interaction with my family and friends. I had a five year period where things were really bad. Looking at how the Lord had blessed my life really helped.
I am currently married to a wonderful woman from China who is the love of my life. Prayers, family and perseverance pulled me through. Career and personal achievements wasnt enough in my case.
I will keep you in prayer my FRiend.
As long as its not a Demon or Hellcat we wont worry ok. Btw your car was built near me and every so often I drive by the place: Very big factory but I suppose all car factories are.
LOL
I’m good. Some FReepers have me on death watch now :)
I like my Challenger and Italian food too much to do myself in!!
And I have to help Trump win in 2020 :)
Besides, I know Jim would miss saying every day “why do I let this maniac stick around?” :)
I appreciate it Jim!
Trump!
Wow. That must have hurt. I am sorry.
But I am so glad your post had a happy ending!
I’m really ok. I was depressed after writing what I wrote!! But it went as soon as it came.
That’s not to say I don’t get down sometimes. Everyone does, I assume.
I’m certainly not near any ledge!!
Hearing the stories of some other FReepers made me realize I’ve got it pretty good!
I wish you the very best FRiend.
To: sunmars This guy quit in Oct 2009 and went back to lecturing at Princeton. Wonder what Obamas got on him to force him back. 3 posted by sunmars
I wish you all the best as well. Thanks so much!
