I should have said, “I guess that most ‘mob’ guys are, in a weird or strange sense pro America.”
Kinda like they would put America ahead of a foreign entity, as Lucky Luciano did.
I certainly did not imply that they were good Americans.
Luciano made that deal with US Navy Intel with, as per Meyer Lansky’s urging, hopes of getting out of a 40+ year prison sentence for running a prostitution ring. He was in fact released and extradited to Italy. There he, again, with personal interests in mind, helped the US and our allies out again. Lansky was reportedly patriotic when it came to Israel, thus his motives for wanting to help defeat Nazi Germany.
