The telecommunications industry is working together in an attempt to ensure any website housing footage of the Christchurch terrorist attack is inaccessible to New Zealanders.
Spark, Vodafone, Vocus and 2degrees - the countrys largest internet service providers (ISP) - are blocking any website which has footage of the shootings.
According to Geoff Thorn - CEO of New Zealand Telecommunications Forum (TCF) - this is an unprecedented move by the telecommunications industry, but one that they all agree is necessary.
The industry is working together to ensure this harmful content cant be viewed by New Zealanders, said Thorn.

I spent some time in New Zealand last year (both islands, and even four days in Auckland itself). I came away with five observations:
1. Beyond Auckland, Christchurch, and Wellington....it’s a fairly rural society. Probably around half of the national population lives in the five biggest cities (1.6 million just in Auckland, out of a national population of 4.8 million total).
2. I would estimate that a third of the nation has very limited internet connectivity, limited TV access, limited FM access, etc.
3. There is some mentality that Aucklanders and Wellingtoners seem to be ultra-sophisticated and the rest of the population much less so. Intellectuals versus non-intellectuals.
4. Outside of the cities....everyone seems to be a jack-of-all-trades, and very capable of skills in plumbing, electrical work, and mechanics. More so, than most Americans in rural areas (my perception).
5. There is some perception that educated people can better handle chaos, stress, and problems. Maybe this is from the British heritage mentality. Maybe the Wellington political establishment thinks they can protect the virtues of the general public.
I will admit this too....of all the places I’ve ever been, this was the one society that if you got into some trouble, they were more likely to extend a helping hand and impress upon you the ‘can-do’ attitude.
Agree. There’s something they’re really scared about getting out. What is it? Another false flag or what?
Just did a page search on ‘VPN’ and did not find it.
“...but I didnt see anything that would discredit it as happening.”
I don’t think many suggest it didn’t actually happen. The question is who is really behind it and what is the reason (i.e., gun confiscation, abrogating rights, etc.)?
The shooter said his goal was more gun confiscation laws. The militant Left applauds his effort, never let a crisis go to waste.
Socialism won’t work without censorship.
“Why does the NZ government want this video suppressed?”
Foreign belief shall be there are no “bad apples” in New Zealand.
Try "Virtual Private Network." It's (also) used by private company branch offices based in countries--like Communist China--that censor/restrict access to the Internet.
I think it is twofold.
One: They are afraid of copy cats, that’s reasonable.
Two: More so they are afraid of the ‘so called’ manifesto.
I have read it and probably 75% of people would agree with 90% of it.
There can be no dissent with the ‘multicultural paradise’ they are forcing down the throat of western civilization.
This is why they do not want the public to have access, IMHO.
My suspicion as well. What was going on in that mosque full of “innocent worshipers” that we need to be protected from? Was Egg Boy in there?
What a bunch of idiots.
I don’t believe I mentioned you. If I did that, please do refer me to that spot where I did. I don’t even think I replied to you here on this thread, but again, if I did, please point it out.
I agree that something seemed odd after I watched it. Perhaps it was that all the victims were for the most part already motionless. I would expect to see them running pell mell for the exits, not just laying there. Could be a mis-impression though.
Thats what victims look like when they shelter in place, bury their heads in the sand and do nothing but hope they dont get murdered.
The judge who issued the order said it was to ensure the perp got a ‘fair trial.’ What difference does it make if the prospective jury pool sees the video now or in court? Is it that the defense isn’t there to tell us not to believe our lying eyes?
It makes about as much sense as blurring perp’s face.
Ask not who the stupid people are. You’ll just get your feelings hurt.
“Agree. Theres something theyre really scared about getting out. What is it? Another false flag or what?”
I haven’t seen the video, but I’ve seen a few stills, the shooter painted his rifle up with many of the names of victims of Islamic violence. The media and New Zealand government probably don’t want to remind people that Muslims murder non-Muslims all the time.
