Complete failure at Oroville Dam

The $1.1 billion spent to repair Oroville Dam is failing as water is seeping through the rebuilt spillway threatens new mass evacuations over the risk of the dam collapsing.

According to national dam expert Scott Cahill of Watershed Services of Ohio, Oroville Dam is on the same failure track as in 2017, with visible water seepage trickling from the foot of the dam and dozens of points along the dam's principal spillway. Cahill warns that warming temperatures magnified by precipitation is a growing threat to the dam.

American Thinker reported on March 1 that the Sierra snow pack was at a record 113 inches, but another 44 inches fell in the next 10 days. With temperatures spiking this week to 75 degrees in the valleys and 41 degrees in the high mountains, dam inflows are running twice the outflows, and the water levels rose from 800 to 839 feet.

There is a LOT of snow in the mountains and, looks like some more snow headed into the Sierra's in the next couple of days. Folks down stream take heed. This could get ugly real fast.

When it fails it will be Trump’s fault.

(It doesn’t take a psychic to predict that.)

Oh dear, those brilliant, clever Californians. So much smarter than everyone else.

They were going to put up their own satellite to prove man-made global warming, remember?

Put up $3B for fetal-stem-cell research to stick it in Bush ‘43’s eye. Got zip to show for it, but a bunch of well-connected investors had a good time. Of course they showed their generous appreciation to the Democrat politicians who voted for it.

The small towns and exurbans who live downstream are strongly Republican, IIRC. State government says "move 'em out!"

Mexico needs Lebensraum. Espacio vital, I mean.

California has been kicking the can down the street on water storage safety and capacity for decades. The influx of illegals into the state and subsequent strain on all resources, including water, has sped up this crisis.

"...the Oroville Dam can hold 3.5 million acre-feet of water..."
"...in February 2017 and engineers began opening eight huge spillway gates to allow 100,000 acre-feet per second to race down the face of the dam..."

So they can empty the lake in under a minute? I think somebody got their per-seconds wrong. Maybe 100,000 gallons per second? Anyone here know?

Thanks rktman.
In 2011, Jerry Brown was told that the Orville Dam had problems. In 2014, he got a major water bond passed, which included money to fix the dam. He refused to fix the dam. Then we had major rains, the dam broke and he wanted Federal funds. President Trump cut out over $300 million—because the damage was due to unrepaired portions of the dam, known since the official report in 2011. Jerry Brown was trying to steal money from the Federal taxpayers, to finance his fraud in passing a bond and not spending the money as advertised.

This has been continuously ugly for 2 years, as to the condition of the dam, and for 60 years as to the water politics of CA.
