That isn't actually true; there are about 1.1 million guns in civilian hands in NZ. But they're heavily regulated, gun owners are licensed, and guns like AR-15s and all handguns are registered.

AOC needs to answer why those laws didn't prevent this attack, and why more laws like the ones that already proved ineffective are the answer.

I don't know about Ardern, but a lot of New Zealanders have no religion--38.5% according to the 2018 World Almanac (and I guess the real figure is higher since some people may not be willing to admit to having no religion). It doesn't say what the percentage of Muslims is--before this event I didn't know there were any Muslims in Christchurch.
