WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, U.S. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) released the following statement after voting to disapprove of the national emergency declaration regarding the border:
I stand with President Trump on the need for a border wall and stronger border security, but the Constitution clearly states that money cannot be spent unless Congress has passed a law to do so.

FUR
Stuff it Rand, we are being overrun.
You’re worried about the President having too much power and also want him to order the US military to secure the border?
ah, so when aliens attack, we’re going to have to wait for congress to pass a bill?
The presidency is not subservient to the Congress, but equal.
“I am a Trump supporter. I agree with Paul. That emergency declaration is a bogus law that gives the president too much power. I agree that Congress and only congress controls the purse strings. We do have an emergency. Trump can order the Military to secure the border.”
Well then we can just wait around until congress votes for the money to pay for that military to “secure the border”.
Or did you forget how that stuff gets paid for?
Hell we have troops fighting conflicts in which NO DECLARATION OF WAR WAS MADE.
But our border? Gotta wait for congress to pass a money bill or else, right?
MCCONNELL LIED!!! He said if Trump signed the spending bill the senate would back him on the ED!! Effer lied!!!!!!!!
Trump is not stealing from the Treasury. Congress has approved the spending of these dollars so to me this makes it constitutional. Through the NEA Trump has statutory authority to redirect as he sees necessary. Guess this will go to SCOTUS.
I stand with President Trump ...except on things that really matter.
I believe the President has a constitutional responsibility to defend our country against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and things such as violent foreign gangs killing our own citizens, massive amounts of drugs destroying families and entire communities, etc. constitutes a national emergency that it is one of the President’s foremost responsibilities to protect us against.
No, he said he would back him.
Rand Paul has just AUTOMATICALLY placed himself into the category of full fledged “DIP$HIT.”
If it’s “a bogus law”, then SCOTUS is wrong - they’ve upheld it, and the principle that the President’s power is at its fullest when he acts within powers specifically listed in the Constitution, or Congress specifically delegating power to him. Youngstown Sheet & Tube v. Sawyer
And Congress passed it - so they’re bogus as well. Blame them.
If you don’t like it, change it.
each of the infamous 11 needs primarying...good and hard
Proves to me Paul doesnt know anything about the US Constitution.
Article IV, Section 4, so yeah - Constitutional duty. Not belief - fact. “The United States shall...”; applies to Executive, Congress, Judiciary, and the States themselves in relation to the other States
Oath of Office, also.
Section 4
The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.
Explain this Paul. Yes the legislature was convened but failed in their oath. So whats it then say? Its up to the executive.
Asshole.
So you passed a law allowing obama to send $150 billion in cash to Iran?
The Republican party is guilty as Hell of letting Obama get away with the pen and phone routine. Rand Paul, not so much.
I’ll give him a pass on this based on consistency. Uniparty types like Romney and Murkowski can kiss my royal Irish rear end.
