When I was in college, I visited Umberto's Clam House in Little Italy (129 Mulberry St. - their hot shrimp was to die for!).

Speaking of dying, I was there a week or so before Joey Gallo (Crazy Joe) was gunned down while celebrating his birthday there.

That’s the second Umbertos location The original where Joey got clipped ....deservedly in my opinion.... Was the northwest corner of Mulberry and Hester and it was white with light blue trim Joey died on the sidewalk on the Mulberry side after being shot inside with his family and friends.....the restaurant owner was mobbed up and was likely complicit...Lanniello....Gallo had Joe Colombo killed or mortally wounded to be precise....the old bosses probably liked that frankly given Colombo’s public life but Gallo did it on his own....can’t do that....Gallo was far too pedestrian to be a family boss honestly...like Gotti
