There is an 800MAX, and an older 800NG. The NG’s are not subject to this, and have been around a long time.

The MAX has a new wing and far more efficient engines, which IMO the issue is coming from.

Not similar at all regarding what caused this. The max uses a completely different - and even larger - engine.

The 800 and others actually had to have the engine cowling “squished” a bit to get them under the wings with the landing gear length they use.
