So what’s up with the work ethic of this younger generation?

They feel entitled to a six figure income, for an easy job sitting in front of a computer screen all day?

Sometimes I think that these young people, who have been coddled through school and through college in many cases, need a “boot camp” type of experience, to introduce them to the “real world”, the world of work which they will be part of. Many seem to have unrealistic expectations of what the business world is really like.

If you can’t get the quality and quantity of people you need, you aren’t paying enough, or are throwing up stupid requirements not germane to the job (which is anything other than quantifiable performance or sociopathic misconduct).

Which explains why lazy, entitled Millenials intend to vote-in Socialism.

“While he didn’t want to generalize and say “every millennial is like this,” Weiss said “broadly it’s an entitled generation” and “probably also over-informed as well.”

“People are constantly on their phones, constantly wired to hear where the grass is greener,” he said”

Wow, and I though millennials could whine. Somebody needs to beeyotch-slap that “consultant” (’con’=’insult’)

We only hire MAGA people in our production company. And yes, we’ve had emails where we CLEARLY instruct applicants to fill in our secured form to apply for a position and they come back with...”why? I have a resume.”

My experience is different than described by the article. I work in technology and I have had a lot of millennials work for me over the past few years, and found them to be smart, hardworking and eager to learn. I’ve seen few cases of the 90 day turnover.

But, the key is to hire smartly and be rigorous in our interview processes and with our back channeling.

The “crucial 90-day mark.” Don’t think of it as a job. Think of it as training for your future unemployment.

I was lucky I had to mow yards in the Texas heat during the summer back in the 70s $5 for 45 minutes of work. It made studying much easier.

New hires at our pretty conservative business now get 1 week vacation after 90 days. Just because that’s the way the market led us because of these wimps.

All us people hired before about 3 years ago had to WORK a whole year before we got a week’s vacation. Although we could borrow time but we had to have a darn good reason and a great work ethic on the job!

“Millennials struggle to make it past the crucial 90-day mark when starting a new job largely due to “own goals” such as lateness and absenteeism, a HR expert says. “

Look, I’m harsh on these people as much as any other old fart, but 90 days?

Is this really backed up with any data?

Companies can’t retain, Weiss says because people are over-informed? As in what, they’re more readily able to find out that better compensation can be had elsewhere and won’t grind for the peanuts you’re offering? Those audacious peasants, upping and leaving for better opportunities!

Part of it is different expectations. In the past, more people had their identity tied to their job, they were willing to work harder and longer, that “company man” mentality. Now companies are seeing a new generation that doesn’t want to invest their entire lives into their job, that isn’t willing to grind for minimal compensation, etc. Yes, many millennials are goofy, lazy, want to “travel the world” or something floaty like that (not that there’s anything wrong with that), and have unrealistic expectations, screw those ones. But Free Market principles would dictate that the onus is on employers to offer compensation that will cause the type of employers they’re looking for to stay on...Not complain that people are “overly-informes.” The thrust of this seems to be that the market has changed and companies are miffed that they have to adjust accordingly to retain the type of talent they want.

This is called Millennialitis, and there is NO CURE. The disease is rampant in SoCal and most big cities. The only possible cure is a lot like Chemotherapy, the Sick will only be cured after experiencing poverty, despair, bankruptcy and probably homelessness., and even that is not a guaranteed cure.

This problem is made possible by the fact that there are jobs going begging, thus making it possible for the newbie employee to flit from one job to another.

This is a historical anomaly that will not last. In due course, it will self correct. These same smug newbies will find themselves in a competitive environment of job scarcity, and will not have a clue as to what happened..

Posting this just for the heck of it!... Lauren Bacall in her own words..

"In a 1996 interview, Bacall, reflecting on her life, told the interviewer that she had been lucky: "I had one great marriage, I have three great children and four grandchildren. I am still alive. I still can function. I still can work", adding, "You just learn to cope with whatever you have to cope with. I spent my childhood in New York, riding on subways and buses. And you know what you learn if you're a New Yorker? The world doesn't owe you a damn thing."

smart lady!!

“One in three millennials will turn over in the first 90 days. The reasons for failing, 62 percent is poor performance, 50 percent is absence, 25 percent is lateness and 30 percent is gross misconduct.”

I think I see the problem...
