If you're 16 in this country, you can drive, get a job and pay taxes — even marry or buy a gun, in some states. But you can't vote in national elections.
Massachusetts Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley is trying to change that.
The freshman lawmaker introduced her first amendment in Congress Tuesday. It's a proposal to lower the national voting age from 18 to 16.
Pressley's amendment is being added to a sweeping, election-reform bill in the House of Representatives. That bill is in the hands of the House Rules Committee, chaired by Massachusetts Congressman Jim McGovern.
And in Boston, city councilors introduced their own measure Wednesday — which would lower the voting age...

No. No, no, no, no, no! I question whether or not some 18 year olds should be voting. Definitely no on under 18 should be.
That probably won’t faze them. “Child support ends at 16” probably will get a reaction.
And owning property.

I haven’t been a renter in 50 plus years but renters still pay property tax.

GCA ‘68 made it federal law, 18 for long guns, 21 for handguns.
Prior to that you could mail order guns.
Not old enough to buy booze, smokes or guns but old enough to vote. I knew this was going to happen once the politicians legalized drugs for their stupid voters. Just keeping the voters high, stupid and ignorant. It worked for the Soviets for a long time.
16 year olds should not be able to drive. They shouldn’t be able to get a job. They shouldn’t be able to marry. They shouldn’t have to pay taxes. And they sure as heck shouldn’t be able to vote.
Given the state of voters, high would be a good thing. It gives hope that, as Shel Silverstein once sang: “I was stoned and I missed it” will be the cause of low voter turnout among millenials and leftards. Legalize pot. Regulate it like alcohol and cigarettes, with stiff penalties for distributing it to minors or taking it off licensed premises, such as bars and smokehouses, and TAX IT!!!!!!
I remember shooting frogs in a small marsh outside my home with my best friend’s air gun. Our moms refused to make frog’s legs for us. We were all of 11.

I bought a Crossman 760 with my paper route money when I was 12, don’t think you can do that today in most states.
How can she learn anything, when she already knows everything.
In 1954, when I was 13, I bought a Savage .22/.410 over/under rifle/shotgun (and some ammo) FRom a Western Auto store in Lakeland, Florida; paid for gun & ammo (NO paperwork!) and walked home with it tucked under my arm. I mowed lawns and saved my allowance for a long time to buy that rifle! (I still own it!)
