Pope Francis railed against unjust employers Friday, saying it is hypocritical to go to church on Sunday and then exploit ones workers.
Many Christians, even Catholics, who say they are practicing Catholics exploit people! They exploit their workers! the pope said during his daily homily at Mass in the Casa Santa Marta Friday.
They send them home at the beginning of summer to avoid having to pay benefits and then take them back again at the end, he explained.
And so many of these call themselves Catholics. They go to Mass on Sundays and then they do this. This is a mortal sin! he said.
How many humiliate their workers! he added.
This is not the first time that Francis has used strong language to condemn the exploitation of employees.

Woe to you who are rich. If one were to preach like this today, the headlines in the next day newspapers, would say: That priest is a Communist! he said. But poverty is at the center of the Gospel. Preaching about poverty is at the center of Jesus message: Blessed are the poor is the first of the Beatitudes.

That’s the right way.
You’re right. He’s no good.
Worst.Pope.Evah! (in my lifetime)
Wake me up when Frankie calls abortion a mortal sin.
And the Catholic Church is in Satan’s hands.....I seem to recall Jesus saying if one broke the least of the Commandments, then one broke all of them....only “Mortal” sin in the Bible is to blaspheme the Holy Spirit.
As I have asked before, has even ONE person come to Christ thanks to this Commie fiend? Exploiting “workers”, (a Communist term), is a mortal sin, but killing babies? No big deal, eh?
btt
Open borders. Human trafficking. Disregard for immigration and employment laws. Low cost unskilled labor.
Elite GW Bush-type Chamber of Commerce Republicans who wanted years of cheap labor. Democrats who just wanted more votes, favorable demographics for the census and a permanent underclass. Yes. A bipartisan marriage made in hell.
Mortal sin alright.
I agree with him.
Actually he is hypocritical in opposing exploitation of laborers yet supportive of illegal immigration.
In interpreting the Bible, it is a good idea to consider the entire Bible. It is certain that Jesus was not saying materially poor people were blessed by God and certain of going to heaven. It is obvious, both in context and in comparing parallel passages that the Pope’s comment is stupid and CONTRARY to scripture:
“But poverty is at the center of the Gospel. Preaching about poverty is at the center of Jesus message: Blessed are the poor is the first of the Beatitudes.
Material poverty is NOT at the center of the Gospel. SPIRITUAL poverty is. Father Abraham was materially wealthy, but saved by God.
Exploiting workers IS a terrible sin. Those who trample on the poor WILL pay a terrible price. I loathe the Cheap Labor Express types, along with companies that rush to China so they can use virtual slave labor - and yes, many of those making clothes for America might as well be slaves given their evil governments and lack of a chance to ever better themselves.
But Pope Che DID get the Bible wrong, even if he got the words OK. Like Satan and many Communists, he can quote the Bible while twisting its meaning. And if Pope Che doesn’t repent, he will also pay a terrible price! God is not mocked, not even by Popes! Pope Che is sowing communism and calling it the Gospel, and unless he repents, he will be judged for it.
He's quoting the beatitudes as recorded in the book of Luke - Luke 6.20
Do you think that I (and others) are not aware of the difference between Matthew 5:3 and Luke 6:20 and haven’t studied the various commentaries on the reconciliation of the two?
Is raping young boys a mortal sin?
The bible requires that employees be paid as promised. (at the end of the day in the culture of that time). I have no idea what he even means by “exploiting” workers.
The 4 d.sins that cry out to heaven include “defrauding workers of their just wages (Jas 5:4).” So yes in this instance the Pope is right. To knowingly exploit workers is a mortal sin. There is nothing Marxist about that admonishment.
“Behold, the wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, are crying out against you, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts.” James 5:4
I am no fan of this Pope but not every utterance of his is based on a fondness for Socialism.
He most likely means it the way Marx meant it.
In interpreting the Bible, it is a good idea to consider the entire Bible.
Tell me something I don't know ...
The Beatitudes are recorded in Luke as well as Matthew. Simply snarking "Stupid Pope! He can't even quote the Bible correctly!" when he is, in fact quoting the Bible correctly, detracts from intelligent discussion. There's far too little intelligent discussion, and far too much snark on this forum.
Exploiting workers IS a terrible sin.
Yes. It's one of the Four Sins that Cry Out to Heaven for Vengeance. (James 5:4) Looks like you agree with us Catholics.
Pope Che is sowing communism and calling it the Gospel,
Sure. But snarking because the snarker didn't realize he was quoting Luke instead of Matthew just makes the snarker look stupid.
Your post showed no evidence of such awareness. Quite the contrary, in fact.
I am not a Catholic.
However, I certainly have ZERO trust in this ‘Pope’.
So is importing millions for cheap labor to undercut wages.
But Popey Pope-Pope doesn’t talk about that.
