She came. She saw. She conquered.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez dominated the South by Southwest conference with her mere presence, bringing in a larger crowd than any of the 2020 presidential contenders, all of whom were asked about her or her Green New Deal in their own sessions at the popular event.
The 2,000 plus ballroom - one of the biggest in the Austin Convention Center - was packed, the overflow rooms were flooded with attendees and Bill Nye tweeted a photo of himself from the room waiting to hear the freshman Democrat from New York speak.
The crowd rose to its feet, whooping, cheering and hollering when Ocasio-Cortez entered, but, when she spoke, you could hear a pin drop.
Her one-hour talk was filled with economic policy, social policy and what she's learned in her two months as a member of Congress.
But her bigger message was one of hope, inclusion and equality, particularly for minorities.
She slammed the treatment of minorities throughout recent American history from Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal, which she claimed was racist, to Ronald Reagan's treatment of minorities.
She decried the idea of incrementalism, a belief in change via small steps, and said it took big sweeping ideas to make a difference.
'This idea of like 10 percent better than garbage shouldn't be something we settle for,' she said.
The crowd cheered her on.

Ocasio-Cortez is an airhead, but I think she's a very dangerous airhead. Most of the millennials I know are crazy about her. (And by millennials I mean actual millennials, not the generation younger than that.) As much as I'd like to believe that the Democrat establishment will rein her in and solve this problem for us, I'm not convinced that demented Pelosi is still up to the task.

I think the strategy now is to have someone ready in the spring of 2020 to campaign in AOC’s district and take her down in the primary. It wouldn’t surprise me if Joe Crowley is brought back, and given heavy funding. But there’s significant damage done to the mainstream Democrats between now and Nov 2020...by AOC. You are correct, in that Pelosi at this point in her life, simply doesn’t have the stamina to weed out issues like this.

So YES, the 30ish and under crowd will LOVE her for the most part. But again, I have ONE nephew, and ONLY one, who leans left of center, but even he is smart enough to know their policies will bankrupt America so he voted for Trump.
So let’s not say it’s a given that she gets 80 percent of the millennial vote if she runs in 2024.
She is also turning off a HUGE part of the independent vote and undecided vote because these people are not looking for a psychotic, pretty obviously stupid extremist to be president.
And chances are GREAT that she will say more and more absurd things that will force dems to deal with her.
If working class whites were turned off in 2016 and went for Trump, they are REALLY lost to dems at every level if AOC is the face of the party.
And I don’t think she helps with the spanish vote at all.
Dems can’t win in this country without at the LEAST a split white vote.
I don’t see them getting that anymore.
Between AOC and the Jew hater, there are more being turned off than turned on by them, IMHO.

AOC has won over to her hardcore socialist "Green New Deal" many of the already-announced 2020 candidates from the Democratic Party. And in doing so, AOC makes Bernie look like a geriatric Barnie Fife.

This woman is too dumb for words. FDR’s insistence that his programs included blacks is why the democrats to this day get nearly 90% of the black vote to this day....
She is a product of what happens when you teach critical theory instead of critical thinking... and sadly 2 generations or so now have been taught this nonsense.
The Democratic leadership in the House is beyond being able to reign her in.
Traditional threats of withholding this, rewarding that etc. will not work on this member.

The Democrats avoided their revolution in 2016 when they stacked the deck against Bernie so they could coronate Hillary. Now their civil war is happening and the old methods will not work on the new generation.
When she can raise millions at the drop of a hat, draw crowds like a midnight rave and her followers would wear brown shirts and line people up in front of ditches if asked she’s dangerous. The left no longer has independent thought and that’s the danger. All it takes is a brain dead moron to lead the zombies.
