“The people of Venezuela (at least some of them) voted for socialism/communism some 20 years ago. They got it. This is the inevitable result. If “somebody else” goes in and saves their butts from their self-inflicted stupidity, the socialists/communists among them will do the same thing again. If they weed out the socialists/communists among their population, then they would deserve some help getting the country going again. Otherwise it’s a waste of resources.”

Exactly right.

If Rubio really wanted to do the people of Venezuela a favor, he should go on any pirate radio stations broadcasting into that country, lecturing the people there in Spanish that they are starving because they were stupid enough to repeatedly vote in Chavez and Maduro. And that if they would like to have a steady supply of food and toilet paper in the future they should vote for capitalists.

“and, it looks like she is already stealing money from her constituents.”

She’ll make sure they all get some kind of free phone or something, and they’ll be just fine. They had to be morons to elect her. She’s not going anywhere. Same with Omar and what’s her face.

Invoke the Monroe Doctrine and watch leftist heads explode.
Monroe Doctrine - you mean the one saying that America won’t fight WWI and WWII?

I read somewhere recently that he has shipped tons of gold out of Venezuela on Russian aircraft. So when he leaves all he’ll need is a toothbrush and a change of underwear.

Speaking of Russian aircraft, are those Russian long range bombers still in Venezuela?

The answer to this is citizen revolt, not immigration to the US. Let the people of Venezuela fix Venezuela.

Well, someone had better arm them, because Hugo Chavez took all their guns.

Here’s the deal— as another FReeper mentioned on this thread earlier— Chavez’s communist regime seized US owned refineries, stole them for their own use. Then started shipping refined crude and gasoline... to Cuba. In exchange for the 20k plus actual Cuban Army soldiers dressed in Venezuelan Federal Police Uniforms (an extra private Army for Chavez and now, Maduro).

The Cuban Connection is the problem. The Trump answer is to starve the Cubans financially— squeeze them. And it will and has squeezed Maduro, and ALL of the key positions held by relatives of Hugo Chavez— incompetent thieving relatives, who are now... targets.

We get the food to the people- and they will revolt against the people denying them FOOD. So they can keep it for themselves. Just like Idi Amin, and hundreds of other dictators in the world— Robert Mugabe. All with Swiss bank accounts for their rake off.

Agree with you on Rubio and the radio. Better yet— well known exiled Venezuelans to do that— do the accusations which are true— Maduro and the Chavistas and Chavez family are keeping food from the people, and every day raking in oil money for that portion of oil they are not giving to Cuba in trade for the Cuban thugs (who are easily recognized by their non-Venezuelan spanish dialect/pronunciation) in a police state.

A cautionary tale. Nationwide power blackout in Venezuela now.

"..The people of Venezuela (at least some of them) voted for socialism/communism some 20 years ago..."

Did they?

Or was there some "creative electioneering" like our local dim-O-craps have a penchant for?

Not saying the Venezuelans didn't vote for it, but all we don't know is what's reported in the media unless somma yous guys are living there.
Just look at what our local lefties get away with in our own back yards. Imagine the chicanery they pull in places "down there". d:^)

As you point out, we are not only seeing the fruits of Socialism but we are seeing the fruits of “Democracy.”

We all remember Jimmy Carter down there as an observer in their elections claiming he was happy with the 60% majority that Hugo Chavez got and since it was “Democratic” everything would be just fine.

Democracy can be the tyranny of the 51% and not much different from the tyranny of a ruling Class or the Tyranny of a despot.

Chavez seized the government in ‘92 in a coup. Tyranny.
Chavez held elections and claimed victory in ‘99. Tyranny
Chavez wrote a new Constitution with the help of Cuba and pushed it through — Democracy.
The new Democracy voted and gave Chavez 60% — Democracy.
The government voted again in 2006 and Hollywood applauded Democracy.

A majority of people can be trained to vote for Socialism and take other’s property — California.
