The slow collapse of Venezuela, foreseen years ago by seasoned political scientists and analysts who have watched this story play out time and again whenever countries ditch capitalism for socialism, may finally be about to climax.
Reports on Thursday claimed that the once-prosperous South American oil giant is now suffering widespread blackouts, which the conspiratorial and hapless president, Nicolas Maduro, is blaming on U.S. “sabotage.” Other reports said that food stocks in the country are so low that there’s only about a week’s worth left.
“The suffering people of Venezuela are about to experience the most dramatic shortages they have ever faced, the implications of which we cannot fully predict,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who has taken up Venezuela’s cause, said at the outset of a Foreign Relations subcommittee hearing on U.S.-Venezuelan relations and the humanitarian crisis that Maduro’s policies have intensified.

I am sure the sanctions US has imposed/ escalated since 2011 played no part in Venezuela’s crisis.
Marco Rubio must be getting extra money for his “I am a Christian, Let’s jack things up” performances.
Few years back, a friend fell for the travel hype and went to Venezuela. Only catch was----
the gorgeous cheap hotel in the brochures was in the middle of nowhere....with no transportation.
To get into Caracas you had to hire a cab ....and the price was at the mercy of the cab driver.....the cheapest was $200.
I liked Rubi, then Cruz.

The desperate hungry and starving will move to get it in past or through the Maduro thug military.
We must invade because they seized our refineries and owe $64 Billion in bonds to our banks. We bust drop air borne rangers and kill maduro and his cuban advisers dead without mercy. This is in our Hemisphere and is the best interest of our country.
The answer to this is citizen revolt, not immigration to the US. Let the people of Venezuela fix Venezuela.
If "somebody else" goes in and saves their butts from their self-inflicted stupidity, the socialists/communists among them will do the same thing again.
If they weed out the socialists/communists among their population, then they would deserve some help getting the country going again. Otherwise it's a waste of resources.
Ship them rifles. When they are hungry enough, they will solve their own problems.

In light of the foregoing, I hope Trump resists in military intervention that leads to the deaths of some our marines.
