An unconventional coffee shop in California is finding itself at the center of controversy – yet again – as a result of its servers’ skimpy styles.
At a meeting on Tuesday, city council members in American Canyon voted unanimously to revoke a license granted to Bottoms Up Espresso, after critics argued that the “bikini barista” coffee shop was operating more like an adult business than a café.
City officials claim they received complaints about the servers’ outfits following the store’s opening, prompting a community director to speak with the owner.
“I met with one of the owners on Jan. 4, 2019 who informed me that he intends to require the employees at the American Canyon store to wear costumes that are as revealing as the costumes worn on staff at other Bottoms Up Espresso stores,” community director Brent Cooper had previously said, according to the Vallejo Times-Herald. “The business owner provided a ‘dress code.’ The costumes in the ‘dress code’ are revealing to a degree that the business meets the definition of an adult business per the city’s Municipal Code.”
According to the SF Gate, the city’s municipal code also requires workers to cover specific “anatomical areas” of the body, including the buttocks, the pubic area, and the breasts below the areola. Otherwise, it may be classified as an adult-entertainment establishment.

There is an interesting chain of coffee shops near Seattle that have baristas in string bikinis. First (and only) time I went to one I was with my wife and we were in our late 50’s I had no idea, and it was quite embarrassing.
I was tempted to reach out for a couple of cupcakes, though. But I successfully fought the temptation.

We had a locality in this area that took such action against a similar business.
The owner sued, and the courts found that their operation did not meet the letter of the law for what an “adult business” is.
The taxpayers of that borough had to reimburse the owner for legal costs and lost business.
You have to feel bad for the California Freepers who have to live with these Mitt-licking Commie Lefties in Whackifornia.

Several years ago there was a coffee shop north of Seattle that specialized in the finer female form serving drinks. It was later busted for having additional “services”.

I’ve never heard of American Canyon. I can imagine they might not be like a typical California freakshow community. And that unlike the rest of the state - they have standards.

Having said this - I still need to see pictures to determine guilty or not guilty.

I lived there when the first started in the 90’s. It was different but no worse than what you see on the beach. If I remember, the girls are paid minimum wage but get huuggee cupfuls of tips.
