Rahm Emanuel Enters Border Wall Debate With Anti-Trump Ad: In 2020, We Will Make Him Pay

While Congress debates the legitimacy of President Donald Trump’s national emergency declaration in order to build a southern border wall, Mayor Rahm Emanuel has jumped into the fray, using the commander in chief’s own words against him.

Emanuel made a 30-second ad that features 2016 presidential campaign clips of Trump promising that he’d build the border wall and get Mexico to pay for it.

“There’s a whole set of issues. Congress is going to bring up constitutional issues. I get that. That’s legitimate,” Emanuel said. “But there’s a campaign pledge. He violated it, broke it.”

The spot opens with Trump standing at a podium in front of American flags, with the crowd chanting, “Build the wall.”

As Trump says, “And Mexico will pay for the wall — 100 percent,” the words “When he pitched his wall … Trump promised Mexico would pay” flash across the screen.

In another clip, Trump says, “And Mexico’s going to pay for the wall. Believe me.”

The words “He failed to make Mexico pay … Now he’s making US pay” appear.

It ends with the message, “But in 2020 we will make HIM pay.”

Claudia Chavez, a onetime senior adviser for Emanuel’s now-abandoned Chicago mayoral campaign and current political director for his still-active political committee Chicago for Rahm Emanuel, said it’s uncertain whether there will be an additional ad purchase. It’s currently online as well.

“As the mayor begins to enter private life, he’s going to continue to talk about things in the public arena that he cares about,” Chavez said

She said that Emanuel, a former congressman who also served as White House chief of staff for Barack Obama, thought that Trump telling the public that Mexico would pay for the border wall was a “lie” and that the record should be set straight.

The disgraced Chicago mayor (who abandoned his 2019 reelection bid when polls showed he was likely to be defeated) takes on President Trump.

Ironically, he concedes the point that Trump will be nominated for a second term despite Democratic investigations designed to delegitimatize his presidency.

Rahm is probably outraged that Trump served Chik-Fil-A sandwiches at the White House to visiting college athletes.

During 2012, as an aid to Obama’s re-election, Emanuel castigated the Christian owners of Chik-Fil-A and sought to ban the restaurant from opening franchises in Chicago.

In 2019, Emanuel and his henchman in the City Council, Alderman Proco Joe Moreno (1st Ward) were both handed their walking papers. Emanuel announced his retirement when his internal polls showed that for all of his money he was likely to lose if he sought a third term. Moreno was bounced by his own constituents at the ballot box.

Chik-Fil-A currently has several stores in Chicago and its suburbs despite Emanuel’s political stunt.

I am pretty sure the USMCA has Mexico and Canada charging and forwarding tariffs from countries trying to skirt the previous NAFTA by using Mex and Can as bases for importing into the US.

I know first-hand that Nippon set up a big operation in Mexico to evade US taxes. They can’t do that anymore.

The USMCA created new revenue streams into the USA. Whereas those revenues were once grabbed by Mexicans and Canadians, they are now forced to forward them on ultimately to the US Treasury.

So yes, Mexico is paying for the wall and will continue to pay for that and other things for the foreseeable future.

Rahm Emanuel has been totally ineffective as Mayor. He is a SAD failure:

“Since Emanuel took office in mid-May 2011, there have been more than 19,000 shootings in Chicago. In that time, there have been 4,000 murders. According to the Chicago Police Department, the average number of murders per year during Emanuel’s administration is 541. The average number of murders per year prior to Emanuel taking office was 463.”

His promise of cleaning up the streets when he took office in 2011 has fallen short of expectations.

“Chicago is still known as the murder capital of America,” Dick Simpson, professor and director of undergraduate studies at University of Illinois at Chicago, told Fox News. “(Emanuel) has tried hard to deal with the problem but HAS NOT been successful.”
