In September of 2014, I had these words to say: "The president acts like he's a king. He ignores the Constitution. He arrogantly says, 'If Congress will not act, then I must.'
Donald J. Trump agreed with me when he said in November 2014 that President Barack Obama couldnt make a deal on immigration so now he has to use executive action, and this is a very, very dangerous thing that should be overridden easily by the Supreme Court.
I would literally lose my political soul if I decided to treat President Trump different than President Obama. (Although, Ill note, not one Democrat criticized Obama for his executive orders.)
I support President Trump. I supported his fight to get funding for the wall from Republicans and Democrats alike, and I share his view that we need more and better border security.
However, I cannot support the use of emergency powers to get more funding, so I will be voting to disapprove of his declaration when it comes before the Senate.
Every single Republican I know decried President Obamas use of executive power to legislate. We were right then. But the only way to be an honest officeholder is to stand up for the same principles no matter who is in power.

Therein lies the problem with “elected representatives”. His constituency should be the first place he seeks counsel. His own conscience is secondary to that.
DJT should hang every murder committed by an illegal on the half-pint’s curly head.
Garbage human being.
Trump is not using his executive powers to legislate, much as BHO did. He is using them to provide for National Defense. Well within his authority.
I understand Rand Paul’s words. I would look him in the eye and tell him that for 35 years the Federal Government has stated it would protect citizens from the abuses of illegal immigration, sex trafficking, and drugs, and for 35 years it has left our southern border unsecured. After 9/11 it promised to protect it’s citizens from terrorism, but leaving the border unsecured while harassing us with a department of homeland security and removing our freedoms has proven it never intended to do so. Rand, this is no time to stand on principles about how it would be better if people followed the Constitution. Clearly, Obama, the liberals and countless other Presidents have not. Rand, stand with the people whom you have accepted a responsibility to protect, not your ideology about how things could have been before Obama. Rand, ask yourself a question about who really benefits from an open border with Mexico, because it isn’t the average Citizen you represent.
He might also reflect on something once said by a Supreme Court Justice in another context: The Constitution is not a suicide pact.
More unnecessary drama. Trump has the constitutional power as Commander in Chief to simply order the Army Corp of Engineers to construct a security barrier/wall along America’s southern frontier. A “state of emergency”, however dramatic and politically motivating was not necessary. The bottom line is that either there will be a wall constructed by Nov 2020 or the border will remain open. No wall, no reelection.
is that true Liz? Obama made 8 declarations?
Spot on graphic!! Thanks. Liz.
Typical “all about me” politician. Screw Paul. He needs Harry Reids gym trainer.

And control the national border, in the same way President Obama’s authority over the border is what kept the Keystone pipeline from crossing from Canada into the U.S.
I’ve never understood why this is a “national emergency” issue. This is instead, it seems to me, a funding issue regarding border control, immigration control, national security, national law enforcement, and national defense, all of which are the purview of the Executive branch, and already have funding, albeit authorized and allotted by Congressional direction.
Can the President not move the 6th fleet to Arizona? Can he not build a mess hall at Fort Whatever? Can he not add a new lane for traffic at Tijuana? Without declaration of emergency?
By the way... whatever Trump does or does not do with an Executive Emergency (or Executive Order) will have zero affect on what the next Alinskyite president does in office.
I wonder how many of us will have to die to support Rand Paul’s “princip;es?” He will stand there on a mound of our bones feeling superior to those of us who would defend our country. Too bad his neighbor only broke his ribs.
Somebody needs to hang it in Rand’s office.
BTW, some of Obama’s N/E’s are STILL in effect.
Your “political soul,” Senator? Excuse me while I roll my eyes.
In Other words:
I will do everything I can to support the Drug Cartels and keep the War on Drugs in full swing, and the only way to do that is to make damn sure the Border Stays WIDE OPEN!
