Leasing rights on western lands with some of the worlds highest densities of sage grouse were sold this week to energy developers for as little as $2 an acre the result of a recent Trump administration directive to roll back Obama-era protections for the iconic bird.
Thirty-one parcels in Wyoming containing 57,800 acres of prime sage-grouse habitat are among those being auctioned online by the federal Bureau of Land Management. Conservationists call the area the golden triangle because of its importance for the species, which has suffered a sharp decline in the past 15 years as oil and gas extraction expanded rapidly in the grouses historic range.
The administration and the energy industry say federal and state restrictions on well densities and surface construction are adequate to maintain the bird populations.

Grouse are wild chicken.
Like all non-domesticated critters, they are virtually all dark meat.
So, DRILL DRILL DRILL.
Sensible decisions - they want to keep habitats “pristine” and never seem to notice how many species thrive in the middle of all sorts of environments as long as it isn’t totally paved over....and rats can thrive in places more dense with human construction....
Looks like a North American Booby.
Almost 60 thousand acres...Unless they’re drilling holes every hundred feet, seems as those these birds could just move over a few feet without too much disruption...

Oil field workers gotta eat, too!
If there are enough grouse to cover 60,000 acres why are they considered endangered?
lol-
Very similar to Blue Heron except you increase cooking time by five minutes per pound.
Nope. Bought my chicken in a store and sat on my butt and 8 it. Tried to stay away from sagebrush. Hung out in the forest looking for mushrooms. The funny kind. Oh, and that work “work”? I always thought they said “lurk” and I would go off and search for more mushrooms.
