Sad ping to the state list.
My experience with the storms is this: Hubby and I were in Dothan which is in the very southeast corner of the state. We needed to go about a 2.5 hours drive north to Auburn. At about 12:30, at the church, the announcement came that there was a tornado to the west of us and we were under a warning. So, about 50 of us went into the main portion of the church and sat along an interior wall until the storm passed over. Then, about 2, hubby and I left on our trip home. We traveled up Hwy. 431 and then Hwy. 169. We had no knowledge of the Beauregard tornado until after it passed and we were at our home in Auburn.
What actually had happened was that a forerunner of the main storm had passed through and a line of storms was still to sweep through southeast Alabama. We passed through Eufaula BEFORE a tornado touched down at their airport which was next to the highway we were on. We then drove UNDER the squall line. We were watching the radar map on my computer (by we I mean me because the hubs was driving). The area where we drove was dark but there was no cyclical movement. We also experienced very little wind.
Then, we got to Lee county. The storm had already passed through and it apparently touched down about an hour before we got there. A large pine had fallen across the highway and had already been cleared. Rescue crews were well underway attending to homes and electric lines. We saw one home that had quite extensive damage. Neighbors were working on that.
It was a very sad situation. Search and rescue will be working, AFAIK, into the night to make sure everyone is located. Please pray for Lee County AL.
We felt that had we stopped, we would have been hindering the work. There were competent people already engaged in attending to matters. But there is still much clean up to be done. We will find out what is needed overnight and contribute then.
Prayers to all.
The death toll has gone up to at least 20 now. More expected as the night goes on and people are found.
wow
Mercy, Father, in the Name of Jesus!
Been through that. Never want to do it again.
One of my co-workers from my last job lives in Opelika. I’ll have to check on him tomorrow.
Is that a video still?
I’m guessing he is probably okay. Opelika proper was well out of the way of the tornado; probably did get some high winds and strong rains. He may have had tree damage. I was on the road traveling under this squall line; the Lord gave us grace; so I don’t know. Auburn is southwest of Opelika. What we get, Opelika gets about 10 minutes or less later.
I do not know. Very possibly it is. I lifted it from a friend’s facebook page.
Oh, my. Thanks for posting that. When I say I went through the aftermath, it was on a different road. I had not seen that before.
Prayers!!
My prayers are with these people.
“O Master, Lord our God, Who in Thy wisdom hast created man, and didst honor him with Thy Divine image, and place in him the spirit of life, and lead him into this world, bestowing on him the hope of resurrection and life everlasting; and after he had violated Thy commandments, Thou O Gracious lover of mankind, didst descend to the earth that Thou mightest renew again the creation of Thy hands.
Therefore we pray Thee, O All-Holy Master give rest to the souls of Thy servants, whose names are not known to us, in a place of brightness, a place of green pasture, a place of repose, and, in that they have sinned in word, or deed or thought forgive them:
For Thou art a good God and lovest mankind and unto Thee do we ascribe Glory, together with Thy Father, Who is from everlasting and Thine All-Holy and good, and ever giving Spirit, now, and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.”
Just breaking: official death toll now at 22. Many still missing.
I have friends/relatives in the mid-west and all over the south. I wish you luck FRiend.
