Morning AB, All. As always, thank you AB for doing this thread so reliably and keeping the peace with gentle thread policing. Thank you Bray for weekly written wisdom, Thank all yon contributors for excellent commentary to flesh it all out.

Below are the words from my daily political diary. It is quite long so scroll on by if not interested. But do stay around and add your commentary and point of view to the thread.

Tuesday date-2/26/19

------------------------------

In fact I did not watch the Oscars though I used to be a big fan. I did tape the show, planning to watch on Monday daytime as by 9pm I am usually asleep.

First thing in the morning I hear that wonderfully , intelligent and erudite Spike Lee spoke political and that was it for me.

I will not watch any show/game that has the actors/players preaching to me about politics. I don’t see Colin Kapernick or Spike Lee as being smarter than me although, go with me here, Colin probably plays better football than me and Spike Lee, well I don’t know what he does but he probably does it better than me. But I do my own politics better than both of them put together so I will not watch them lecture me with their stupidity.

Whew.

A big note inserted here….the Dow has gone up 11.9% this year so far. And this included a few deep drops so capitalism was at worked and it still works well.

----------------

As of this writing President Trump is going to Vietnam to meet with Kim Jung-Un. Trump has done farily well with this North Korean matter, you got to give him that.

He got Warmbier back, he got dead soldiers interred in North Korea back to be buried in their homeland. And so far, ole rocketman has not been sending up rockets.

And Vietnam! Wow. I came to adulthood when the Vietnam War was blazing. My boyfriend, then husband-to-be, was about to be drafted and considering a move to Canada. No way I would move to Canada though I didn’t want him to be drafted, taken from me, to maybe die in a distant war that nobody quite understood.

Now Vietnam is a tourist paradise, featuring “The Bachelor” and “Survivor” on its land.. Now it is serving as a sort of Geneva, Switzerland type of place.

I been pondering this huge change in Vietnam, including to my granddaughter who only knows of the Vietnam War from her history book. She listened to me narrate and said the wisest thing, which sums it up….

“Mom-Mom, Vietnam is a country, NOT a war”.

Indeed it is. Indeed it is.

So the wonderful and honest Michael Cohen, already called a liar for lying before congress, is going to testify before congress again. Rumor has it that Cohen, a liar who lies with lust, is going to say that he paid the Stormy Daniels a bunch of money, something already widely known, that Trump talks badly about African Americans while in office, that he tried to reduce property tax, insinuating he did something dishonest.

Just yet another way to say bad things about President Trump that we hate him and want to impeach him.

----------------------

And how about the senate voted AGAINST an anti-infanticide bill? 53 voted against it and 44 voted for. The law provided that a baby who survived an abortion should be considered alive and given necessary medical care to keep it alive.

53 of our senators thought the baby should NOT be forced to live, that the health of the mother should be the primary consideration.

I never thought it would be legal to kill a baby after birth and further, my elected representatives would vote to allow the newborn to die with no assistance.

What awful road has America gone down?

First a cultural note….I’ve been watching the show called “The World’s Best”. This show features talented acts that put on a performance that amazes. There’s magic, female contortionists, singers, dancers, acrobats.

Most amazing….guess what?

THESE PEOPLE GIVE THEIR PERFORMANCES, ENTERTAIN US AND DO NOT DISGUST US WITH THEIR POLITICAL POSTURING.

So it is possible.

Let’s get rid of Hollywood and ring in “the world’s best”.

---------------------------

Yes I did watch some of the hearing of the wonderful and honest Michael Cohen. Guy is going to jail for lying to congress yet congress brings him again to testify.

And they believe him?

One astonishing thing said was that there was a tape of President Trump in an elevator beating on Melania!

Say what? The President beats his wife?

This guy lied all over the place and the Democrats should be ashamed this show they’re putting on. Even if Trump did give the lovely and chaste Stormy Daniels hush money, it happened before he became president and he used his own money.

No, folks. This was a really dumb idea and conduct their show of lies while the President is in Vietnam dealing with North Korea is thoughtless and will not endear the Democrat party to America.

------------------

I don’t know much about what’s going on between Pakistan and India but somebody shot a plane out of the sky. This little show too took place while Trump is in Vietnam dealing with Kim Jung-Un.

We’ll investigate and report tomorrow.

---------------------------------

Friday date--3/1/19

North Korea, China and America.

------------------

So the grand summit, held in Vietnam of all places, turned into a bust.

Good and wise Kim Jung-Un refused to rid North Korea of all nukes and all to do with nuclear activity.

President Trump said the meetings went well but since ole Kim would not meet America’s requirements, no sanctions would be lifted.

Which makes me wonder if President Trump reads this page. Because I complained, in a recent post, that Trump seemed to praise Kim Jung-Un quite a bit for a guy responsible for the horrific death of Otto Warmbier.

And yesterday don’t you know Trump comes out with a declaration that when he queried good ole Kim how he could do that to such a bright young man, Trump said Kim said he had nothing to do with that.

So Trump, evidently, feels okay with liking the fine Kim as he had nothing to do with Warmbier.

Yeah, right.

For those who declare that President Trump failed in his endeavor, I say pshaw!

We did get Warmbier back, mostly dead but with some life left. We did get our dead soldiers back to be buried in their homeland. And, I remind, ole Kim has not fired rockets for over a yea

r. Our relationship with North Korea is much better and I’m thinking he knows who’s in charge.

Rush Limbaugh asserts that the reason this summit failed to produce a resolution was due to Kim Jung-Un’s relationship and dependence on China. And China is not about to let North Korea out from under its thumb.

While I love Rush, and while he’s right on most everything, I can’t for the life of me figure out how China benefits in any way with having a third-rate country attached by hip.

Give me some more time with Rush and I will figure it out.

Time for a cultural Update

Let us begin with former NJ Governor Chris Christy, who’s been desperate to get his fat nose under the tent of the Trump administration. My sense is that President Trump doesn’t much like Governor Christy but that’s just me.

I have a grudge against Christy for the day he shut down the George Washington bridge between NJ and NY, a nasty act against a political opponent who dated to challenge him. But working folks like me were stuck on that bridge, paying with time stolen from our families for Christy’s pettiness.

I also didn’t like too much when he shut down all beaches but kept his own little waterfront all to himself. I know there’s more to it than that but I don’t like the guy.

Anyway, Christy has a book, you can look it up himself. He’s been promoting this book so you shall see him on every those, even The View, who knows?

--------------------

Here’s a tidbit. Famed pillow seller, Mike Lindell, is attending CPAC. He might even be a speaker, I dunno.

Damn but he is handsome and darn if I wouldn’t share a pillow with him.

------------------------

And it’s time for a little “Punkin’ Chunkin.

First, to all Delawareans, there will likely NOT be a punkin chunkin event in Delaware this upcoming year.

Punkin chunkin is a folksy type of event where a bunch of folks (Americans, of course, who I always say have too much money and time on their hands) use all manner of mechanisms to hoist pumpkins in the air and send them flying into the stratosphere.

Here in Delaware for a few years it was held in Bridgeville, a nothing burger of a town famed for having a town motto that applies to every city, hamlet and burg in America “If you lived here, you’d be home now”. Bridgeville is not near any of Delaware’s more famous beaches or lakes so the punkin chunkin festival became big stuff, complete with games, food and a carnival type atmosphere.

Only a few years back somebody got hurt badly.

Punkin chunkin in Bridgeville Delaware has stopped.

For a few years there have been efforts to get punkin chunkin back in Delaware, somewhere, perhaps the Dover raceway. At one point I think they did move it somewhere and, again, someone got hurt.

Insurance companies refuse, adamantly, to insure such an event.

Well hey, you got inexperienced operators brining in cannons and big earth moving machines, all manner of mechanics to send those pumpkins flying. You got all kind of people running around under big spherical objects flying through space, all to achieve the furtherest launch into space.

Nobody passed a law against punkin chunkin. The gubmint did not have to be involved. Capitalism in the form of an insurance company that didn’t want to throw money down the drain, determined, ahem, that punkin chunkin is probably not such a good idea.

---------------------

On a personal note

It’s a sort of silly anecdote but, of late, I’ve noted such strange things when one “buys one, get one free.”

Back in the day when an advertisement offered to buy one, get one free, and one only wanted ONE, usually that one would be offered half price.

At least as my ageing memory recalls.

So I am in Giant foods and they had Pepsi 6 packs advertised, again bear in mind my ageing memory, buy two, get one free. This may be an error on my part, more on this later.

So I put three Pepsi 6-packs, Diet, non-caffeinated, in my cart. When I got home I checked my store receipt and, sure enough, I got charged for all three 6 packs, FULL PRICE!

So I go online and research the current week’s circular for this store. IT shows that at Giant, through first week in March, if one buys TWO 6 pack, one gets two 6 packs Pepsi at half price.

That’s the Pepsi 6 pack at half price. Though I am pretty sure that my Giant had advertised that if one buys two 6 packs they get ONE free. Why else would I have put three in my cart? Still, I could have been in error and either way, I got cheated.

At least as I saw it.

I wrote a letter to Giant corporate headquarters, yada, yada, yada….because even if my memory was correct and the sign said buy two get one free….I still paid FULL PRICE and if the corporate circular was right, I got cheated out of TWO Pepsi 6 packs.

At some point I got through to the local store and the store manager was real good about. Somebody from corporate had evidently contacted him.

“I tell you what,” he said, “at your convenience come in and I will give you a free 6 pack of Pepsi PLUS I will give you a full refund for one 6 pack.”

I thanked him and said I would be in Tuesday and I told him I was pretty sure his store advertised “buy two get ONE free” which is why I took 3.

“If you should see any advertisement for buying an item, getting one free, always do it like it says,” he explained, though it made no sense to me.

I did NOT put three 6 packs of Pepsi in my cart based on an advertised sign that said BUY TWO AND GET TWO FREE. In that case, as the store manager explains, I would pay FULL price for the three 6 packs in my cart.

But I put 3 6 packs in my cart because that’s what his store, in error perhaps, advertised. The cash register was programmed to look for FOUR 6-pack Pepsis in the cart, based on the corporate circular.

I think the store made a mistake because had I seen, plainly advertised, to buy two get two free, I WOULD HAVE PUT 4 6 PACKS IN MY CART!

Further, why is he giving a refund PLUS a free 6 pack? I have no proof what I saw but one cannot have too much Pepsi. I would have put all four 6 packs in my car, to effectively, pay half price for them.

Still and so, good service and I shall get my Pepsi 6 packs this coming Tuesday.

China pressures North Korea as leverage over trade talks.

It is a useful foil for them. North Korea is the bait they hope to use to reel in the end of tariffs.

But they’re dealing with Donald J. Trump.

We shall see.

Maybe the Chinese will have little Kim rattle his sabre some to see if they can spin up the US media against Trump.

Whoops, too late!!! We’ve been there, they’ve done that—every day.

Great stuff Fish.

As far as the oscars go the only one I really wanted to see win was A Star is Born.Lady Gaga was terrific and Bradley Cooper should have been recognized as the true genius he is. This guy did everything but sweep the studio. He produced directed, starred you name it Bradley did it.Of course anyone that talented who is not on bended knee to the hollywood pedophiles should never expect any rewards and that's basically what he got.

Cooper is our modern day Clint Eastwood and should be rewarded for a terrific movie that few could duplicate.

..........

As for Trump telling little Kim to go back home and get it right once again he puts America first.Trump won't sign an agreement that screws us over with the norks or the chicoms on the tariff agreements. We finally have a potus who puts the country first. The world needs to learn that and respect it or pay the price.

Fish-there were quite a few women ( I think) on Twitter last night swooning over Mike Lindell. Love his story and those pillows. No more neck pain for me once I started using them. Now I have 4 pillows on the bed and all my cats fight over where they want to sit on them.

Little if any coverage / commentary on the senate vote.

How did this not pass if we have a republican majority in the senate or was this a 2 / 3 vote ?

Did any republicans join the Dems .

Disgusting . Wonder if the fossils in the senate thought about the next extension of this, getting rid of us old foggies under some draconian Medicare for all provision
