GERSHIN, Iraq A group of Yazidi women and children reunited with their families in Iraq Saturday after five years of captivity at the hands of the Islamic State group, hugging and kissing relatives in emotional scenes that underscored their yearslong ordeal and that of their devastated community.
Elated families met their loved ones at a rural truck stop on the road between Sinjar and Dohuk, tossing candy in the air like confetti, the women ululating with joy.
The 18 returning children, aged 10 to 15, appeared weary and at times uneasy with the attention of the media and officials. One teenage boy collapsed in his aunts arms and broke down in tears. Few parents were there to receive their children many are still missing in territory held by the Islamic State, or have been confirmed killed. Other parents have already sought asylum in Western nations, in the hopes their children will be able to follow them.
Still, the children could not hide their joy at being hugged and kissed once more by their relatives after the long and traumatic separation.

Imagine the horror of Parents murdered, children taken by ISIS and held captive for 5 years. And indoctrination of the young children by the most Evil of all groups.
But the remaining families are over joyed. But there will still be healing and re-education issues.
May God Bless them all.
Me. Id bide my time, hone my skills and go Vlad on them
I share your approach.
Not go Vlad, Go Remember the Alamo, aimed at our current despots.
Ezidi’s have been peaceful people.
But not always, once were military too.
Now they train.
I remember the young girl captured by ISIS, made sex slave, escaped, trained and killed (as sniper) the leader who made her a sex slave. Very fitting end.
To think this was done in Mass, not just by a few fringe.
Yep, long long ago.
I assure you that Texas is not what Mass. is.
Don’t think Texans ever got over being a Republic. Well at least many of us never did. smile.
It would he been a lot worse for the Yazidis, but for our allies the Kurds.
I believe the reference means En Masse
adverb
in a group; all together, in a body, as one, as a whole, in a mass, wholesale
Not Massachusetts
OK, sorry I did not get it.
Absolutely true. And a lot worse for the entire North of Syria. Alevi, Assyrian Christians and Arabs are now allies of the Kurds. The Kurds with our air support) were the first to repulse and defeat ISIS.
And now here we are in Eastern Syria, ISIS is crushed, except where Turkey transplanted them. (There are other places in the world where they still exist. There are pockets of sleeper cells still in Syria, they are working on that.)
My Kurd friends tell me that the Ezidi are where all Kurds came from. I’m not sure of that, but that is what is said.
