Sen. Mike Lee believes 1) there is a border crisis and 2) the White House has too much power

Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, told state lawmakers Friday that he hasn’t made a decision on joining a Congressional resolution opposing President Donald Trump’s declaration of a national emergency on the nation’s southern border.

Lee objected to Trump’s use of executive authority to divert funding for the construction of a border wall. But he said he’s less concerned with that particular declaration than the underlying question of whether and when a president can sidestep Congress on government spending.

“It’s probably not a good idea to give presidents that much power,” Lee said.

Lee said while he supports the president’s goal of enhancing border security, he’s “agnostic” on what exact type of barriers are needed between the United States and Mexico.

And while it’s likely that Trump’s emergency declaration is legally sound, Lee said, the nation’s laws and precedents have placed too much discretion in the hands of the chief executive.

“There is certainly a crisis at the border,” Lee said. “Any time there’s a crisis, you can argue that the crisis is an emergency.”

Exactly. Mike Lee has served in the Senate since 2011 and hardly said squat about Obama’s national emergencies. Bush and Obama declared emergencies on things that weren’t even emergencies and nobody gave a damn. Now Trump has a real emergency on the border and suddenly everyone has to comment on the President using his emergency powers. This is not how we govern.

I don’t recall Sen Lee talking loudly against the blank check Congress gave Obama for years. Repeated CRs that gave Obama free reign on how he spent his blank checks.

Would Lee say the same thing if Romney were president?

“It’s probably not a good idea to give presidents that much power,” Lee said.

Well, Congress has already given the President that much power. If Lee doesn't like it, he can move to repeal the delegation of power. Or he can attempt in the future to eliminate the pots of available money that presidents have at their disposal.

Nice to see the Church has gotten to Mikey.

They want Los Inmigrantes to convert and come up to live in South Salt Lake and West Phoenix. Mormon Stakes are gettin’ kinda thin what with all the white kids only having two kids these days. Used to be 11.

3). Congress has done absolutely nothing to address the problem, - for several decades at least!

4.) God Bless President Trump for taking action while everyone else ignores what the American people want done!

All these rinos are complaining about Trump’s actions, but not a single one is pointing out the only reason Trump didn’t get funding for the wall is because Democrats refuse to work with him in any way whatsoever. There was not a single rational argument against funding the wall, but they obviously think there is political benefit in attacking the leader of their party, and president.

“It’s probably not a good idea to give presidents that much power,” Lee said.

Congress gave away all their power to the President while Obama was in office. Now that Trump is in office, they want to try and take it back.

Good luck with that!

So by deduction and logic, one must affirm that the legislature and Senate has failed to do its job, forcing the president to do his. An admission of job abandonment is not solved by blaming the president.

Oh, they were concerned. When election time rolled around and they needed to scare the base so they can get re-elected.

It's what members of Conservative, Inc. do.

"Hello, Mitt? This is Mike Lee. Trump is actually going to fund and build the wall. I know it's fully legal and Constitutional. But no worries. I'm on the case to stop Trump."
