‘Shame’: Victor Davis Hanson delivers scathing indictment of failed ‘coup’

The first “coup” in U.S. history in which government bureaucrats sought to overturn an election and to remove a sitting U.S. president has failed, a columnist noted.

“Not thugs in sunglasses and epaulettes, not oligarchs in private jets, not shaggy would-be Marxists, but sanctimonious arrogant bureaucrats in suits and ties used their government agencies to seek to overturn the 2016 election, abort a presidency, and subvert the U.S. Constitution,” Victor Davis Hanson wrote on Feb. 17 in an op-ed titled ‘Autopsy of a Dead Coup’ for the Center for American Greatness.

A host of the Washington hierarchy lied under oath, obstructed justice, illegally leaked to the press, unmasked and leaked names of surveilled Americans, and misled federal courts under the guise of a ‘higher loyalty’ to the cause of destroying Donald J. Trump.’

“And they did all that and more on the premise that they were our moral superiors and had uniquely divine rights to destroy a presidency that they loathed,” Hanson wrote.

The effort by the Hillary Clinton campaign “to create, disseminate among court media, and then salt among high Obama administration officials, a fabricated, opposition smear dossier failed,” Hanson noted.

“So has the second special prosecutor phase of the coup to abort the Trump presidency failed. There are many elements to what in time likely will become recognized as the greatest scandal in American political history.”

If Barr doesn't indict, then we are in Phase III.

VDH’s essay on the Deep State attempted coup explains why “The Bulwark”,that Campbell’s condensed cream of never-Trumpers, is suddenly on the warpath against VDH.

If the people with authority and responsibility fail to prosecute this case then We the People MUST stand up and do it or we bequeath no country to our children. The smirkers are counting on gettin a pass.

Meanwhile, Jeff Sessions merrily wanked away. Barr apparently hasn’t exactly charged out of the gate either.

Barr should indict every one of these

If he doesn't, it's not a "dead coup." It's an ongoing coup in broad daylight, it's a hydra with numerous heads seeking to make the fatal bite. They are not even discouraged, much less defeated, at this point.

they failed to overthrow PDJT and the 2016 election, but they succeeded in SUBSTANTIALLY impeding his programmatic efforts, which (after all) were the reason we elected him

and while i do believe he will run and get re-elected in 2020, IF he were to bow out... due to all the smears, lies, and impediments from the commie-SorozNazi leftist cabal and their mass media............it would not be a total surprise.
If only because, well, why would ANYBODY voluntarily take (more) such abuse?

Atty. Gen. Barr remains absent in the discussions of the day.
He remains mysterious as to how he sees his job.
Is he going to support this president or not?

With Eric Holder, there was NEVER A MOMENT OF DOUBT who he worked for, supported and defended. Holder was aggressive and outspoken about how to promote his president’s agenda.
Same thing with Loretta Lynch. She knew what her job was.

With Sessions, and now with Barr, there is the impression of a quiet and empty room, devoid of any discussion about how to achieve, win and maintain. I do hope I’m wrong about Barr, because we are stuck with him for now. Certainly until after the next election, unless something outrageous occurs.

Hanson is wrong about this being a failed coup.

This coup attempt has not failed because it has not yet been stopped. Not until ALL the perps, including Obola and the Clintons are rounded up, tried, convicted and sentenced will the coup have failed.

At this point, it is still an ongoing coup attempt.

How anyone could conclude it has been a failed coup when not one of the conspirators is in prison or even charged with a crime IMHO is quite premature. In fact I would postulate that the “actual coup” was VERY successful and took place so long ago there are probably very few plotters still alive. This has pretty obviously not been “Our Country” for quite some time.

from the Spectator article:

“Isaac Chotiner of the New Yorker accused Hanson of ‘hostility to undocumented Mexican and Central American immigrants.”

And his point is?

Would this idiot have hostility to someone breaking into his car, his house?

We know the answer. What about breaking into his country?

Much depends on how Barr deals with the portion of the sealed indictments that are federal in nature. But because most of the 100,000 or so sealed indictments are filed at the state level, Barr’s opinions cannot hold The Storm at bay forever.

Heard VDH on a talk show recently. He said he has lost friends/colleagues since he endorses a lot of what POTUS is doing. He also said he and family have received threats.

The Bulcrap is noothing but MSNBC on the web. May it fail soon and forever.

VDH is not only one of the best analysts, but his delivery and style are very persuasive to independents. He can actually bring new people over to our side, unlike Hannity and other bombthrowers.

VDH is a true renaissance man. In addition to being a brilliant political analyst, he’s also a scholar of Greek & Latin, an accomplished historian and a raisin farmer.
