No less than Ernest Hemingway told a story about how he was enjoying the wonderful revolutionary spirit in Cuba when Che Guevara drove up to the house and invited him for a picnic. Hemingway happily agreed and they rode out to some nice clearing where there was a nice lunch. Then a truck full of prisoners pulled up and a firing squad was set up. This was Che's way of having fun. Hemingway didn't want to see it but he had to and he left Cuba right aftwerwards.

A couple of things: First: Hemingway saw communism for what it really was and he stayed a communist, just went where he wouldn't have to confront it's horrors anymore. Second: Che was a monster that enjoyed watching political prisoners get executed, it wasn't an unpleasant necessity for him but rather a joy to send enemies to their deaths yet communists and kids still think he's dreamy. And third, leftists pretend like Castro didn't know about the cruelty and murder happening under his regime. He did. He demanded it.

Not wanting to be a source of "fake news" I actually just looked it up to refresh my own memory. I misremembered the details. The real story: George Plimpton went down to commie Cuba to visit Hemingway and Hemingway invited him to a picnic. Over drinks they watched the truck of prisoners and the firing squad and Hemingway loved it, said he watched it at the same time every day. Plimpton did not love it and he left. He refused to write about the story because leftists always cover up the murderous truths about communism but he told the story to others and they wrote it.

The Paris Review: Plimpton, Papa, and Cuba

Some details messed up, especially attributing some level of humanity to Hemingway which he did not deserve. But Che was still a murdering bastard who ordered all the executions and Castro still knew all about it, believe it.
