Pendeja (pronounced pin-day-ho, when explained to me) means azzhole in Mexican. But I’ve also been told the Spanish spoken in LA is not the same as the Spanish spoken in Madrid. I had a friend in the service from LA that told me this. I made the comment to him “at least you can speak Spanish here in Rota Spain.” He said his Mexican wasn’t the same as the Spanish folks Spanish. I don’t know either much. I can order a beer and insult a Latin American. I generally don’t call anyone a pendeja, but I do use azzhole occasionally. Pablo said the deference is Mexican mixes some Indian (as in native America inhabitants) words with Spanish. It’s nice to see the conservative wing of college kids are having fun too.
Yeah chicano California idioms are different from Spain-Spanish idioms. Sometimes they even don`t know which word is correct so they got to ask their parents who were born in Mexico. Words in chicano are slurred and run together as compared to Mexico City Spanish which is very sharp and tingly. [Similar situation vis a vis French Canadian and French, not identical.
