Pendeja (pronounced pin-day-ho, when explained to me) means azzhole in Mexican. But Ive also been told the Spanish spoken in LA is not the same as the Spanish spoken in Madrid. I had a friend in the service from LA that told me this. I made the comment to him at least you can speak Spanish here in Rota Spain. He said his Mexican wasnt the same as the Spanish folks Spanish. I dont know either much. I can order a beer and insult a Latin American. I generally dont call anyone a pendeja, but I do use azzhole occasionally. Pablo said the deference is Mexican mixes some Indian (as in native America inhabitants) words with Spanish. Its nice to see the conservative wing of college kids are having fun too.
Yeah chicano California idioms are different from Spain-Spanish idioms. Sometimes they even don`t know which word is correct so they got to ask their parents who were born in Mexico. Words in chicano are slurred and run together as compared to Mexico City Spanish which is very sharp and tingly. [Similar situation vis a vis French Canadian and French, not identical.
