He usually has several layers of underlings whom he allows to live less affluent lives than he. The peons hunt grasshoppers and a rat to roast for meals and if they are lucky they beat off the lions, and tigers that come into their huts to make to make a meal out of them. If they happen to be unlucky and end up in the lion's stomach, well it just wasn't their day.
