I dont know about NYC, but Chicago’s outfit is alive and well, although not as big as it used to be.
They dont get into the wars like they used to, although they will call a contract on another if they absolutely have to.
There isnt the silence in the trenches like the old days and to many will spill the beans if caught.
We always have to say there is no mafia.
But if there was, 9/11 and the diversion or resource to terrorism, coupled wit the influx of MANY Sicilians and their VERY low key approach has actually made the NY families stronger over the past 2 decades.
As for spilling the beans, my father’s generation that grew up in the 20s and 30s, heck prison wasn’t much worse than home.
Today’s gangster kids grow up in million dollar homes and drive 100,000 dollar cars.
Prison doesn’t look so good to them.
As Tony Soprano said “The kids today have no room from the penal experience”
