BRANDON, Fla. (WFLA) – Hamburger Mary’s announced on Facebook on Tuesday that two more locations will be closing as of March 31, if not sooner.
The restaurant locations in Brandon and St. Petersburg will be closing.
“Mary has kept the Brandon and St. Petersburg restaurants open in hopes that, as the truth of the Health Department’s false accusations about the Ybor restaurants became known, business would return to its former levels. Mary appreciated the outrage expressed by several of the candidates for Mayor of Tampa and the Hillsborough County Board over the Health Department’s false and discriminatory actions against Mary’s Ybor locations,” the Facebook post reads.
“Unfortunately, business in both Brandon and St. Petersburg has remained suppressed to the point where it is no longer possible to keep the doors open.”
The location in Ybor City closed permanently at the beginning of Nov. 2018.
A restaurant worker at that location tested positive for Hepatitis A on Oct. 25.
Were the allegations against the waffle house proven to be false?
Sounds like the claims of Hep-A by an employee were not true...
Curious that their response would be going on a PR counterattack against the Health Department.
Unless they really believed local hacks were taking kickbacks to put them out of business.
Why wouldn’t they sue? They should have sued immediately.
Gay bar or not, if the health department made a false statement about an employee having Hep A, then a lawyer should have been called immediately to get a cease and desist order.
Apparently there are no test results showing Hep A.
This is not the Tampa, Fla I grew up in during the 50’s, 60’s & early 70’s. I don’t even know the ‘new’ Tampa. I loved the old Tampa, though.
Can't they just admit that a lesbian burger joint has a very limited market appeal?
I just moved from Clearwater. We went to the Clearwater location on a Sunday - with the KIDS - not knowing what it was. We sit down and the first thing I notice is two women at the bar with their hands down each others pants. As I tried to make sure my children weren’t seeing this, I told my husband we had to leave. As we get up to leave the drag show starts. We get out of there as fast as we can and pass a family with kids younger than ours entering. I took the mom aside and told her what was going on (figuring they, like us, had no idea) and her response was “we think it is wonderful.”
A hamburger joint featuring queers and perverts - such a small percentage of general population - no wonder it folded.
Sounds like a job for Gordon Ramsey.
