First provable lie Cohen makes . . .

In July 2016, days before the Democratic convention, I was in Mr. Trump’s office when his secretary announced that Roger Stone was on the phone. Mr. Trump put Mr. Stone on the speakerphone. Mr. Stone told Mr. Trump that he had just gotten off the phone with Julian Assange and that Mr. Assange told Mr. Stone that, within a couple of days, there would be a massive dump of emails that would damage Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

He just said it, no evidence of collusion. The part about him lying to Congress is on him. The part about him paying off blackmailing women, I don’t care about. The payments to lawyer Cohen in reimbursement for Cohen's payment to stormy Daniels exonerates Trump rather than implicates him in any scheme to evade campaign finance laws because the payment show show that Trump spent his own money rather than campaign finance money.

Hush payments made from one's own funds in the campaign are definitionally not campaign expenses and need not be made public. This is the view of everyone except partisan Democrats and the federal attorneys in New York, to be redundant.

Even if they are defined to be campaign expenses which should have been scheduled, the violation is a minor civil one and certainly unworthy of impeachment.

Politically, the Democrats think they can do damage by showing Trump paid off a porn star for sex he had while married but Trump's sex life has already been baked into the cake and there are few votes that will be changed by revelations that Trump was not a monk - thank you Bill Clinton.
