He is very likely innocent. And the verdict overturned on appeal. It has been logically laid out how the alleged abuse could not have happened. It has also been shown how it would have been almost impossible to seat a jury that had not been aware of the malignant publicity regarding Pell. This included a very prejudicial book published before the proceedings.
I am not fully up on Australia’s legal system but it appears that Victoria is the exception in that the 10-2 verdict did not lead to an acquittal. There is also valid criticism of the methods used by the Victoria police and strong implications of corruption in that force.
