Falling rock, ice at Yosemite National Park kill woman on closed trail: officials

A California woman was killed on Sunday while on a closed trail in Yosemite National Park, according to officials.

Xuan Wang, a 56-year-old woman who lived in Cupertino, was on the Mist Trail around 12:30 p.m. when she was "struck by falling rock and ice," the National Park Service stated in a news release on Monday.

Wang later died from her injuries.

The park agency said that the Mist Trail where Wang was killed is closed during this time of the year because of "icy and hazardous conditions," and that the area is noted as such.

"The trail closure is clearly marked and there is a gate on the trail reminding visitors of the closure. Wang ignored the signs, went around the gate and the incident happened on the trail leading to Vernal Fall," officials said.

The park service said officials are investigating the incident.

Park rangers surveyed the trail and determined it to be unsafe.
They put up warning signs and shut the gate to the trail.
This person came along and chose to ignore all of the warnings.
What happened after that was all on her.
Surely, her family members must grieve for her loss,
but it was preventable and all due to her own actions.

That’s a sick thing to say, that you value life more than she did.

Keep going down that road, see what happens.

Good choice—give up when you’ve chosen a losing, anti-American argument.

Yes, that’s right, she had an accident. It’s very sad.

That doesn’t make it right to demean her.

no shame on me.

she lacked common sense at 56yrs old or chose not to use it. American Values, to me, means you follow law/guidelines and are personally responsible for your choices good or not so good.

She put other park people in harms way to look for her or have to at least be involved in removing her from a dangerous area.

Just like the fools who try to cross flooded streams or washes in vehicles and get swept away - stupid motorist laws now call for the person or families to have to reimburse for the rescue or recovery.

I take on no shame for pointing out this woman willfully went where she was not supposed to be and it cost her her life and could have put others in jeopardy too. It surely leaves her loved ones without her, all because she wanted to do as she pleased regardless of signs or gates saying it was closed and not go there.

If you think demeaning a person who died accidentally because they made
the wrong choice is American values, you don’t understand anything about American values.

Another powerful American value is humbly admitting when you’re wrong.

Look, I am not calling you drunk or high. I am trying to have a conversation with you, and I thought I was being polite. I get the distinct impression you are upset due to the horrible things we have seen in the last month or two including today about abortion in this country. That is fully justified. Your attack on me was not.

I asked you in a reasonable and rational way to explain to me why I should hang my head.

And I am also curious how you can characterize me as “sick” that I state that I value life more than she did? It is a provable FACT that I do value human life more than she does, that isn’t even a question due to the nature of her death. Do you know how I KNOW that?

I know that because when I ski and see a “Trail closed due to dangerous conditions” sign I don’t ski on that trail, and I don’t allow or encourage any other human being to go there.

When I see a sign that says “Trail closed due to flash flood danger. Do not cross this point” I DON’T cross that point or encourage others to do so.

When I see a sign that says “No swimming due to undertow” I do not swim there, nor do I encourage others to do so.

There are only three reasons that woman went on that trail:

1.) She couldn’t read the sign but went anyway. If I were in China and came across a sign I didn’t understand, I wouldn’t proceed, ESPECIALLY past a gated area.

2.) She could read the sign and deliberately ignored it. This is likely what happened, and it speaks for itself.

3.) She was too stupid to understand why a trail would be closed due to unsafe conditions. If this is the case, she shouldn’t be there on her own.

How would you feel if the search party that had to go look for her was hit by falling rocks or ice and searchers were killed or maimed because this arrogant “rules aren’t for me” person wanted to do what she pleased and put other people in peril?

It absolutely isn't just Asians, but it does seem they have a penchant for getting into situations that seem like no-brainers to avoid: Angry Bison chases asian kid

I think you seem stuck in feelings about her. I’m looking at the facts. feelings are what liberals want everyone to be stuck on. I have sorrow more for her family than I do for this foolish woman.

Revolutionary fighters were for American values for sure and I’m pretty sure they didn’t sit around feeling sorry for those who did stupid things to get themselves killed during the war or in the years before or after. We today are so soft on what the root of American values really are.

Life is important but this lady was reckless and she bore the fruit of that. Thank God she didn’t have kids or others with her.

Don’t care what you think; STUPID people who do STUPID things deserve to die, how else are we supposed to keep a healthy gene pool?

Rattlesnake Creek?

Make it "Cottonmouth Creek" instead - they hibernate in big clumps in the water and you can't see them until you're pretty much stepping on them-- scary!

Then by your own rule, you deserve to die. Because Darwinism is stupid, and believing in the principles of Darwinism is stupid.

I don’t think you deserve to die. But your own rule demands it.

There is no excuse for demeaning the woman in her death.

It’s unspeakably cruel.

Learn the foundation of American values. Once that happens, you’ll understand that the bedrock of what we are comes first from moral law.

I understand when people make mistakes. But what you’re doing here is allowing yourself to be manipulated by those whose life goal is to destroy this country. Maybe you grew up watching too much tv. Maybe you didn’t. Whatever the case, somehow you’re buying into the stupidest lie of all time.

The first target of America’s enemies, and the last, is to destroy our morals. But they’re losers because they’re also the enemy of truth.
