Wouldn’t the atmospheric drag on the moon cause it to spiral in towards the earth?

Physics would say so, but the moon (so they say) has been drifting away from the Earth for billions of years.

Don’t worry about our silly little moon. In a mere 7.6 billion years or thereabouts the sun will start running low on the light stuff it is fusing now and move on to heavier stuff causing a nova and we wont have to worry about some silly little moon. The surface of the sun will be aprox .2 AU or 1.859e+7 Miles out past our current orbit.

Stock up on sun screen.
