“In order for our side to fight back in any meaningful way we must first organize. We seem to have some natural refusal to do that.”

The other side seems to have more cohesion, although that seems to be getting frayed in spots.

The other side (socialists, communists, etc.) tends to purge their ranks after they have won; conservatives tend to purge their ranks before they can win.

Based on my long history at Free Republic, the description is “self purge”

It is apathetically correct to do nothing. Sanctimonious apathy is at the root

In general Democrats do stick together more than Republicans.

But if you're talking civil war, then obviously you aren't going to have more conservatives or Republicans in favor of that than they have Democrats or liberals in favor of Democratic politics as usual.

I don't think there would be much unity among Democrats if the topic is going to war with the other half of the country.

Democrats stick together because they can just add up different groups by promising them things. If that's no longer possible, they won't be united anymore.

There's no real cohesion between stockbrokers and corporate lawyers who vote Democrat and the urban masses.

And I doubt there's much real cohesion between ordinary Republican voters and those contemplating civil war and nuking major cities.

Plus, D’s run as moderates. Govern as socialists.

R’s run as conservatives, govern as moderate D’s.
