Between the total collapse of the Covington Catholic story and the embarrassment of the Jussie Smollett hate hoax, 2019 has been a rough year for Americas embattled mainstream media.
Now, the hostility toward these supposed guardians of democracy that provided some of the energy behind Donald Trumps 2016 campaign is about to get its day in court. Nick Sandmann, the 16-year-old Covington student who was accused of willfully intimidating the Native American activist Nathan Phillips at this years March for Life, has filed a defamation lawsuit against The Washington Post, requesting $250 million in damages.
The court filing, which is available online, is a fascinating read. My first question was how Sandmanns lawyers came up with the figure of a quarter of a billion dollars, and the document duly provided an answer: it is the amount Jeff Bezos, the worlds richest person, paid in cash for the Post in 2013. This lawsuit is not about Sandmanns lost opportunities or mental anguish. Its about punish[ing], deter[ring], and teach[ing] the Post a lesson it will never forget. That kind of rhetorical melodrama seems aimed at journalists, not judges. The goal, quite literally, is to take the paper for everything its worth, and make a big splash doing so.
Nor does the combative language end there. Sandmanns attorneys accuse the Post of wrongfully placing the anti-Trump, anti-Catholic, and [pro-choice] agenda over the harm its False and Defamatory Accusations caused to Nicholas and of ignoring contrary information in favor of its pre-conceived false narrative against President Trump and his supporters. Sandmanns name might be at the top of the complaint, but the attorneys who authored it clearly imagine their lawsuit is carrying the banner for every single victim of anti-MAGA discrimination.

Where will that civil case be tried?
Everybody seems to think the case will be decided on the merits.
My money is on either a) a biased partisan judge derails the whole thing; or b) there is a quiet settlement which bars anyone from speaking about the matter ever again (IOW, a bribe to shut up and go away)
We all wish courts were impartial, but they are not; and entities like the Post which have powerful friends in the DC establishment, are seldom required to answer for their deeds.
Go get em!
Wishing Mr Sandman and crew Victory-Luck.
Nothing like a few Mega settlements to cure the rest of the pack’s ardor for Their politics presented as news.
"Weaponized hate" as Black SC Cong Tim Scott brilliantly described it.
In the lying, grinning fool, Smollett, "expert" liberals saw a "warm, caring man" subjected to conservative racism,
and divisive, hateful rhetoric that put the no-talent dork "at risk.
Yet, in the cool, serene Nick Sandmann, politely listening to a drunken drummer, these same "experts" saw a
screeching, bigoted lunatic and a "climate of hate" being played out.
The rag will settle to avoid discovery.
Places like Harvard only enlist dopey leftist tools like hogg. Sandman is branded now. The only probable way he has of getting by the lib admissions staff is via a couple of state schools or Liberty U. Even the service academies are infected now.

Might take more than a few my friend but it’s a good start. These people need to know if they report misinformation there are consequences. Tucker Carlson said as much last night, that there is really no penalty for what the liberal media outlets have been doing for a long time and there should be.
Hope they don’t get an Obamajudge (”Obamajudge - n - A person semi-trained in law who believes they are so talented that they rule on a case before it’s even presented to them.)
If they quietly make that kid and his family multi-millionaires for an hour of extreme patience under duress, that's a pretty good pay-day.
Real justice is not going to happen in this world until Judgement comes.
The rag will settle to avoid discovery.
These kids will be fairly well off.
Then again, there are a LOT of suits being files. WAPO being but one.
The lawsuit was filed in Federal court — in the Eastern District of Kentucky. This might be the absolute worst place in the world for the Washington Post to be facing a lawsuit. They’d be better off with a jury comprised of Trump family members.
Filed in KY where Sandmann lives/goes to school. The KY laws on defamation are VERY much in Sandmann’s favor. He is NOT a public figure so all that has to be proved is ‘negligence’, not malice. Also, since he was a juvenile, he has 2.5 years to bring lawsuits, which his attorney (Lin Wood) has pointed out - says there could be hundreds of lawsuits before this is over. Most will settle before ever getting to court. Wood is not a “wreck chasing” lawyer - he’s a serious, skilled attorney who has made it his life’s work to protect those defamed when they are innocent - became well known when he represented Richard Jewel & since that travesty, he’s been on a mission and taking on the defamation of Nick Sandmann is his latest.
I hope this is only the FIRST lawsuit of many to be filed.
GO AFTER EVERYONE WHO PERPETUATED THIS HOAX!!!!
Would Jesus go to an elite university?
As a certain billionaire once said about Rosie O'Donnell: Probably I'll sue her. Because it would be fun. I'd like to take some money out of her fat-ass pockets."
Probably, yeah. Would the admissions staff let him in, knowing he was a vocal Christian? Probably not.
Thanks for the info. Good to know.
These lawsuits Sandmann is bringing will keep the story alive throughout 2019 and into the election year 2020. Where it might have faded from memory by election time, news generated by the court cases will be constant reminders of the indecency of the Left.
