Yes. He said Jussie was responsible for that (he just confirmed they got that information from the two brothers). He also said Smollett did all this because he wasn’t satisfied with his salary - which doesn’t make a lot of sense. It seems to me that he did it because he hates Trump, hates Trump supporters, and wanted to put himself in the spotlight and promote his career.
They’ve got all Smollett’s comms. They likely didn’t need the brothers for motive. Hmmmm....
At the press conference they are saying “there’s no place for hate in chicago.” Isn’t what Jussie did hate against Trump supporters? I wish someone would ask him that.
I find this press conference a little strange the amount of information they are providing. If I was the defense lawyer I would be saying that this conference poisoned any possibility of a jury that could be assembled anywhere. Is this gonna get him off clean as a whistle?
They likely didn’t need to go to that much work to ID the brothers. Their names, numbers didn’t show up in any of Smollett’s comms. And he wrote the brothers a check?! Good gad, this should have been a quick slam dunk.

If Jussie paid the brothers to attack him (which he did - the Superintendent just said they have the check) aren’t they STILL guilty of attacking him?

I noticed that, too - an awful lot of new information is actually being given here, and the Superintendent isn’t using words like “allegedly.” On the other hand, he seems honestly pissed off at this dirtbag actor and seems like a very decent guy, so I don’t think there’s any intentional subversion going on here.
That’s why the bros aren’t being charged with assault/battery. The bros ought to charged with conspiracy.
