“The Green Beret’s” was the worst movie John Wayne was ever in and possibly in the top ten worst movies of all time.

I believe his son Michael directed it proving once again that nepotism is the kiss of death every time.

It wasn’t all directing though as the writing and plotline were pretty stinky as well.

What better punishment?

In Clockwork Orange, the rapist was brain washed, unsuccessfully though, with images of violence. His eyes lids were taped open to force him to watch.

My favorite scene in the Green Berets was when they were evacuating the overrun camp and called in a Puff to saturate the camp with Gatling gun fire. I laugh every time.

“The Green Berets” had its cheesy moments (I never saw pine trees in Vietnam) but John Wayne was believable as an Army colonel & had played that role more than once.

But the Duke as a German sea captain or as Genghis Khan was waaaay out of character. He was never good at foreign accents and the makeup job to give him Mongol eyes royally sucked.

Ok, it may not have been his best but tell me that you didn't have a tear well up in your eye when the little Vietnamese orphan Hamchuck is running from helicopter to helicopter looking for his 'Peterson'? When John Wayne tells him that he had to be strong? C'mon that was good stuff! And the song Ballad of the Green Berets was awesome. Heck, it even gets this old Jarhead humming along to an Army Song!!

I loved the Duke. By far my favorite actor growing up. Watching Sands of Iwo Jima the first time on a late night movie channel as a boy was one of the reasons I made a career out of the Marine Corps. I wanted to be Sgt Stryker!! (minus the alcoholism, failed marriage and ruined career)

No,the movie when he played Gangis Lang was the worse. It was also probably the cause of the death of most of the actors and crew of getting cancer. Seems they filmed where nuclear wastes were deposited. I think Lee Van Cliff was the only actor to escape the Big C.

As noted, ‘The Conqueror’ was by far the worst John Wayne movie. Genghis Kahn? Did have Rita Hayward and Agnes Moorhead.

St. George, Utah, nuclear site.
