I’ve never heard of, or seen, this Smollett guy before, but as soon as the Tucker video went to him speaking, all I could think of was Jon Lovitz and ACT-ing! Sucking in his little lips, butter-smooth voice, eyes looking at the ceiling ... just ARRRGH! I had to turn it off. WHO could believe him after 10 seconds?
Notice MSNBC clip had the talking head who was supposed to be the required black dude reporting on a black story. Notice, too, he is very high yellow (guess that term is not PC) with Caucasian facial features. The “required” minority reporting on minority related stories is racist.

I haven’t watched the video, but it’s hard for me to believe this incident was the construct of a middle-of-the-road actor.
This whole thing reeks of leftist activism. A false flag designed to inflame the Chicago minority population and quite possible provoke violence in the streets.

The one difference with Tawana Brawley and all the others is that she was a kid who lied to stay out of trouble with her stepdad, Reverend Al and other adults took the story and ran with it, they are more to blame than she was.
This, on the other hand, is a premeditated crime or crimes by an adult capable of foreseeing the results, whose only fathomable motive was race hatred of whites.

They’d probably have been murdered in jail before very long.
As it was, the “crime” never even happened.
How do you get prosecuted for a year and very nearly convicted, for a crime not only of which you are innocent, but which never happened?
Not hard for me. The plot was so lame-sass it was detected as BS from the moment it started. It's just the sort of thing a dumbass actor would think up. He was not smart enough to think it through properly.
