$3.7B of taxable income for the workers.
Plus: Income tax on the money the employees paid others: painting, gardening, dentist, doctor, auto repair, etc.
Plus: Sales tax on the money the employees would spend on goods: restaurants, gas, etc.
Plus: property tax on the buildings Amazon would occupy.
This gal could do some serious damage on any committee but the Toddler's Committee.
She needs to go back and do what she does best. Wait on tables in a bar.
She's not ready for prime time yet.
There’s plenty of room to debate when/if tax abatements are good public policy for attracting or keeping businesses, but the crazy notion of AOC that there is some $3 billion pot of money now to be re-allocated to other uses is both hilarious and demented.
No, AOC, the govt does not HAVE all that money, there IS NO MONEY now that you drove Amazon away.
Silly, silly Sandy....
“Sandy” is the name she went by in school, before she decided to get all “ethnic” for politics....
I want a red “MASA” hat:
“MAKE AMERICA SANE AGAIN”
Because BETO was taken
She represents a district where the median income is $47,000. 25,000 workers with an average salary of $150,000 ARE real jobs -- and a LOT of them.
This dipsh!t really believed that Amazon was going to open a giant warehouse and hire 25,000 sweatshop workers at minimum wage.
you’d be surprised how many unskilled locals would be needed for the proposed facility. Janitors, er, environmental engineers, and an army of them - the vacuumers, the dusters, the guys who change lightbulbs, the guys who do only toilets, the guys who touch-up paint, the guys who water the plants, the guys who restock all the vending machines in all the break rooms, and on and on. Then the mailroom, another army. Add in typing, er, data input, clerks. And all of them qualifying for the education program and within-company advancement in 90 days or 120 days or whenever probation was ended.
As I’ve mentioned before, nobody has a squeak to say about the Amazon distribution center over in Staten. But non-warehouse jobs? real 9-4 jobs? the horror!
It’s ludicrous to say that the Amazon deal was a “waste of money,” but if Amazon generated $27 billion in tax revenue it might be the first time a company ever met its expectations under these NYS and NYC tax incentive programs.
That's right, racism! Those guys are bigoted against the idiot race.
“Sandy” was short for Alexandria. She apparently pretended to be a WASP when she was going to school in New England.
Her own party has to deal with her - she is going to cost them.
Yes, there are plenty of support jobs within the company - and plenty in the surrounding area as well. Cities like Newark NJ will give deals to companies that will hire X% of their workforce locally - and many fill those positions described.
My main issue with the Amazon move (and I didn’t oppose it - I can just see both sides) is that a lot of people would have been pushed out to make way, and they probably wouldn’t be able to afford the new neighborhood created.
The patriarchy wins again, this time by simply pointing out the obvious.
She’s a moron even by millennial standards.
RE: Where do they get the nickname Sandy: for AOC?
That was her nickname in high school.
See here:
I think shes toast in 2020. The chances of a Republican winning are small but the GOP should field a candidate anyway just in case she gets nominated.
RE: I think shes toast in 2020.
You give too much confidence in her constituents.
The problem is NOT only her, but those voters who would put her in office KNOWING what she openly said she stands for.
It would be easier to unseat De Blasio or Cuomo than AOC.
Love it. Great tag!
FMCDH(BITS)
