Two men arrested in connection with an alleged attack on "Empire" star Jussie Smollett have been released without being charged due to new evidence from interrogations on Friday, Chicago police said.
"Due to new evidence as a result of today's interrogations, the individuals questioned by police in the Empire case have now been released without charging and detectives have additional investigative work to complete," police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said in a statement.

Quite possibly texts, e-mails, phone logs, banking records... If Smollett did set the whole thing up, these brothers probably gave CPD everything in return for no jail time.
It's also possible the guys refused to beat Jussie and backed out of the 'deal'. That would explain why Smollett had no injuries beyond a little scratch.
Our the cops let them go and will record their calls and catch them talking about this with fagman.

Let’s start with the fact that they were never arrested. They were being held on a 48 hour investigative detention, which is permitted by Illinois law. Those 48 hours expired this evening. With rare exception, they either have to be charged with a crime or released at that point. The only possible crime they’d be charged with is assault, which would require some proof that what they took part in wasn’t consensual. Chicago PD is saying they concluded that no charges should be filed against the two at this point, “after information obtained during interrogation.”
Speculate on what that information might have been, and fill in the blanks.
Police probably released them because Chicago is a sanctuary city and the Nigerians were here illegally.
His website indicates he also happens to be an expert on forth amendment cases involving cell phone data.
They no doubt want to see this farce just go away. Maybe negotiating some plea deal to disturbing the peace or something.
Same thing happens when Leftists riot at politcal conventions. Smash businesses windows, attack cars, etc. Arrested at scene and weeks later charges are quietly dropped.
Who would think that President Trump or his supporters would do this kind of thing?
I strongly suspect Mr. Smollett is cooking this up for the sake of self-promotion.

Should have never been arrested unless they had traces of white-face makeup and MAGA hats in their possession....because the alleged vic said the perps were white and wearing said hats.

Theory: the two Nigerians roughed up poor “Jussie” in some overly rambunctious drug fueled sex romp where he then had to explain away facial damage to the Fox show runners. He and his brilliant agent concocted this fantastic story and now the chickens are coming home to roost. Jail and fines.
