Democratic defections were mostly Hispanic Caucus members, progressives concerned about immigration enforcement
House Democrats were just two votes short Thursday night of being able to clear a fiscal 2019 appropriations package without Republican help, while less than half of the GOP conference voted for the bill to avert another government shutdown.
That dynamic may foreshadow battles ahead as the new House Democratic majority will try to exert its influence over government spending while still having to deal with a Republican president and Senate.
By and large, House Democrats only losing 19 of their members on the $333 billion spending package that comprised seven of the 12 annual appropriations bills not signed into law before the Oct. 1 start of the fiscal year is impressive.

“avert another government shutdown”
Is that all that matters to these cretins? Yield on all principles, give the Dems 150% of what they wanted, give the Reps 10% of what they wanted, erase our borders all to “avert another government shutdown.”
I swear they’d vote for Beelzebub for Speaker of the House before they would do what’s right for America.
Oh, wait...
These votes confirmed that there are certainly enough votes to override a Trump veto.
They could also be claimed to confirm that if called to question, there are enough votes to impeach Trump.
In this light, lots of people here are angry that Trump didn’t veto the bill, so it could be proven that he doesn’t carry enough weight with his own people to prevail in a fight.
We’re getting a wall. I don’t know how to explain it better than that. We need one. Hopefully when we get the House back, we can undo some of the damage OUR PARTY voted for.
After seeing the Republican leadership on Capital Hill for the first two years of Trump’s term in office, I sure wouldn’t hold my breath on that one.
Some folks left their thinking caps in bed this morning.
“They could also be claimed to confirm that if called to question, there are enough votes to impeach Trump.”
Then he’s totally irrelevant already.
The national emergency will be held up in court for years. In fact his ‘I didn’t need to do this, I was in a hurry’ statement deep sixes his case before it even gets to court.
The congressional votes were intended to send a “FU” to the people and to let Trump know that they can impeach him any time they wish. This was a demonstration by the uniparty.
Wow...
The guy is doing exactly what we asked him to do, and here you are just angry as can be.
What he said doesn’t matter. What matters is whether he is required to protect the states from invasion or not. He is.
If you wish not to vote for him next time around, be my guest. I’m sure the Leftist of your choice will be glad to have your vote.
I agree. Some folks here sure don’t, or don’t care.
Solution!
Reminded me, time to take another swig.
Scary stuff when you see the power that Hispanic and foreigners hold now.
Can we be happy for one day?
I agree...
Evidently not...
Can't say it any clearer or more succinctly than that. Well said. Spot-on.
The congressional votes were intended to send a FU to the people and to let Trump know that they can impeach him any time they wish. This was a demonstration by the uniparty.
Yep. And even better for the uniparty is that the POTUS gets all the heat while THIER open borders agenda undermine him/us.
Today confirms once again that the Party of Lincoln is a stinking rotten corpse. For the good of the country it needs to be buried for good.
“This was a demonstration by the uniparty.”
Against us.
Someone stop the train... I wan’t off.
It does, but I don’t know how you do it.
Ross Perot almost pulled it off, but it’s very hard to do.
I had hoped we could change the party from within, but they’ve made it very clear they’d rather turn to collectivism than straighten out and fly right.
The writing is on the “wall” and nobody wants to read it. The Republic is sinking fast as the government is a monster run by tyrannical scum. I have doubts about likelihood of President Trump being re-elected.
Well signing this bill certainly does not do that, in fact it ties up every thing that he wants to fix.
