It would appear we are fleeing California like its on fire (which, actually, it literally is lately); only large quantities of foreign people moving into one area typically disrupt culture and incite hatred like that. Yet San Francisco rent continues to lead the nation based on white-hot demand. This doesnt really make sense.
Let me offer a snapshot of San Francisco in 2018:
A friend is having a birthday party at a funky dive bar in the Mission and has invited you. Despite the ostensibly blue-collar aesthetic, you pay $14 for a cocktail containing house-made lavender syrup and organic gin. You lean against a vintage pinball machine, a shrine to the predigital adolescence half the people in the bar never had, and proceed to make small talk with the other guests, asking, Where are you from?

Sweetheart, your city has an Apple app dedicated specifically to telling people where uncleaned piles of human feces are so they can be avoided.
Meanwhile, if an illegal alien murders you, the city is dedicated to providing a first-class legal defense to the murderer.
California was beautiful when I grew up there.
It changed.
I left.
We had families going through our trash every trash day.

Thanks I was reluctant to click on the link. Your synopsis confirms my reticence.
I used to go there in the 90’s and it was a mess except for Fisherman’s Wharf, North Beach, and Chinatown. Anywhere south of the Nordstrom’s on Market was an absolute disaster in the 90’s. My ex-gf and I once got off a bus in the Tenderloin by accident and saw a bunch of homeless duking it out in the alley IN FRONT of city hall WITH THREE COPS standing there.
What a nightmare it must be now.
Tried to get through the article and my ISGAS (I scarcely give a s***) meter went around three times and flew off.
Yes, there are really people out there that are that vapid. CA (and particularly, San Pelosish*tsco) deserve the upcoming big one.
I was, however, surprised by the amount of racism and hatred for everyone who was *not* a "SF Native". I'd think that someone as self-absorbed as the author would recognize themselves for the bigots they are.
I left my poop...on San Francisco...
(Apologies to Tony Bennett)
I think San Francisco’s trajectory was set when it became THE destination of the “beautiful people” of the 60’s. It never recovered.
Article way too long. But it did remind me of our drive to Stinston Beach years ago. Very pretty.
Tagline...
I stopped reading at “$14 for a cocktail” WHAT!!??
People are leaving because they feel people in (R) areas are not paying enough taxes, or have enough crime or social pathologies so they are doing their part to make the rest of the country in their image.
I find this article alarming. It describes leftists leaving California, the septic tank they have created for themselves, for other parts of the country. That sounds like metastatic cancer.
San Francisco is living off the heritage that was built and given to it by others many years ago.
I live in a bubble in coastal south Orange County. Its beautiful here, the beaches, the hills. The weather. So far, the only real effect on me are the higher taxes. Sooner or later Ill leave and it will be a very sad day.
