I’ve had the pleasure of being around Mikaela and her full coaching staff for a fair amount of time and side slipped a lot of training courses for her. Great crew working with a great girl! In late August of 2017 I was watching Mikaela learning to “run speed”. (Super-G) I turned to her coaches Mike Day and Lindsey Young and quietly said Mikaela will race a little Downhill of but only on courses that favor her abilities but she is going to be a holy terror in Super-G. We all knew the same thing.

Prior to the Olympics I read a LONG article about Mikaela. What a worker! Either her mom or dad impressed on her how little actual on-snow training she would have in a year - I forget the number, but total time actually skiing (not including the lifts) was unbelievably low. SO - EVERY move on her skis was to be related to racing. Even making that last turn to get over to the lift was to be a well-executed racing turn.

It told the story of one day they were supposed to be on the course for training, so it was canceled, and a “free day” and all the other skiers spent a fun day in the powder.

Mikaela went back down to the training center to run through her exercise routine. Which was incredible. I forget all it was, but she did more and longer than anyone else. Even the men IIRC.

Here's the article which I imagine you have already read. Pretty amazing parents and their daughter!
