A man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend and dumping her body in a suitcase in Connecticut is a citizen of Portugal who has been in the U.S. illegally for more than a year, federal authorities said Wednesday as the victims loved ones gathered for her funeral.
Javier Da Silva Rojas, who had been living in New York City, was taken into custody Monday and charged with kidnapping resulting in death in the killing of 24-year-old Valerie Reyes, of New Rochelle, New York. The charge carries the possibility of the death penalty.
Da Silva, also 24, entered the U.S. on May 8, 2017, through the Visa Waiver Program and was required to leave by Aug. 5, 2017, Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a statement.
The agency on Wednesday filed a detainer for Da Silva, meaning he will be deported immediately after his criminal case is complete and any sentence is served.
Susanne Brody, a lawyer for Da Silva, declined to comment Wednesday.

Well they won’t be covering that on the evening news now. It will vanish poof gone never happened.
Agreed, the enemedia will choke before they report this.
Love birds in happier times.
We’ve been talking about visa entry/exit tracking for a couple of decades now. Why can’t we get it implemented?
If it’s ever actually implemented then they can’t keep using it as a talking point of promised improvements when lying to us about how they’re going to make things better.
‘They’ simply don’t care. But you must pay the taxes.
I believe they could fix it quickly if they wanted to. In today’s computer society I’m pretty certain people here on visas could be kept track of.
Lets wrap this Freepathon up, Folks!
[ Suspect in suitcase death in U.S. illegally, authorities say ]
Yeah, but he was a Latin Jack Ryan.
Just doing the jobs Americans refuse to do. /W
He did it out of love! /Jeb!
Demonrats
Most countries I travel to, including the European Union where this creep resided in Portugal, if you are allowed to enter without a visa, they stamp your passport in when you arrive.... and they stamp you out when you leave. That way they can keep track of who overstayed.
Too bad the US is run by criminal democrats and lying useless GOP who actually want foreigners to overstay their visas and camp out here as long as they feel like it.
Anyway, glad I got to read about this story before it goes down the memeory hole.
I volunteer to perform the capital punishment.
Life in prison, in a suitcase.
-------------------
So the U.S. taxpayers get to pay his room & board for the next 30-40 years (or life)? Make Portugal pay! "Prisoner Tariff"?
Deport him...in a box!
Congress must rewrite the laws governing illegals who commit crimes while here in America...being here illegally should not permit them to be treated as citizens. Thousand of $$$$s will be spent on Javier Da Silva Rojas defense; for what? A possible life sentence that will add up to Millions keeping him in prison if he doesn’t get the death sentence which could be worth years on death row....
I couldn’t agree more, FRiend.
They are guests in my view and laws should reflect they are not citizens nor deserve the rights of citizens.
I’d say send him back, but Portugal’s
prison sentences are lame, even on a
1st degree murder conviction. Hang him
here...
