California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Tuesday that the state will no longer pursue plans to build an estimated $77 billion high-speed rail line between Los Angeles and San Francisco because the project "would cost too much and respectfully take too long," per the AP.
The big picture: The project was years behind schedule with an estimated completion date of 2033. It had been hamstrung by political backlash in the state, and polling showed that a majority of Californians disapproved of the plan as costs ballooned.
Similar proposals for high-speed trains on the East Coast, including along the heavily trafficked Northeast Corridor between Washington, D.C., and Boston, have also fallen apart due to opposition and massive cost estimates, per the New York Times.
And what will they do with those abandoned parts?
Im sure, if the price is right, Elon Musk will figure out how to adapt the equipment for his underground vacuum tube car transport in LA. He needs lots of wire, concrete, rebar and rails. I expect that he could get quite a deal.
Did Steamboat Willie EVER understand that passenger rail won’t work without government subsidies?
Dammit, you aren't supposed to notice how various urban interstate viaducts channel and wall off some undesirable neighborhoods.
Example: The St Pete, FL system quartered the peninsula, and walled off the black area of town, with only four easily barricaded exits, and a wide open kill zone across the top.
In fact, most by-passes will make it convenient to lay siege and starve out Socialist cities. I-295, around Chicago, is particularly sweet.
Only thing that makes sense to me is maybe it’s to bring in cheap labor from the valley to the future amazon distribution center in Bakersfield.
If Bezos was smart he would pull OUT of CA. completely, they are pulling out of NY they should do the same in CA. I live in CA. this state is DONE!!!!
In a hundred years this will be one of those Mysteries of the Abandoned.
If it were ever possible for Brown to run again with the promise to get this Bullet Train finished, the idiots would vote him back into office.
Anybody who sends dick pics isn’t that smart!
Yep, this state is toast.
I’m hating it here more and more each day.
Planning to retire elsewhere.
I will also be retiring OUT of this state, havent decided where yet, the weather here is hard to beat!! Need to find a place where I dont have to worry about shoveling out of snow every year!!! Washington, and Oregon are out of the question due to all of the CA. transplants, Nevada is also changing very quickly AZ. is where I thought of going BUT they are also quickly becoming CA.
Help wanted sign in my local UPS store says MUST speak fluent Spanish, in my own damn country cant apply for a job unless I speak fluent Spanish just disgusting, these people come into OUR country YET WE must speak THEIR damn language!!!
I had the same reasoning as you did.
We’re looking at Idaho.
Wyoming might work.
Yeah, I know.
:(
IMO, that’s code for mexican.
Probably the only reason my brother can find work is that he can pass for mexican.
Boston-Washington is the only place in the country this could work - but to straighten the line from Bridgeport to Hell Gate would take land from some of the richest and most powerful people in the world.
Will never happen.
Idaho is my number 1 pick right now also, I think southern Idaho might not have brutal winters as much as Northern Idaho would!!! I cant wait to get the hell out of this state such a shame, it is far to expensive however the weather is something NOT found anywhere else in the country!! No humidity AND no brutal winters other than that the state SUCKS!!!
It is getting extremely expensive here.
Houses in the ghetto going for half a mil!
Brutal winters will be worth it to get out of here!
My daughter and I went to Idaho last summer to look around and visit a college she was interested in.
We thought Idaho was just gorgeous.
From Nampa to Canada and back was breathtakingly beautiful!
No. The California voters voted for this. They wanted this train.
I havent been to Idaho glad to hear from someone who has been there I will start investigating Idaho Thank you!!!
Check in with our old reliable Billthedrill, who can tell you all about Idaho.
I daydream a lot on realtor.com.

With ALL of the fraudulent voting going on in this state ANYTHING can get voted in if the powers that be want it!!!
